Something truly crazy would have to happen for Bernie Sanders to win the Democratic nomination.

Hillary Clinton reacts to supporters as she arrives at her Super Tuesday election night rally in Miami.
Gerald Herbert / AP
To borrow a phrase from Dan Rather, Hillary Clinton swept through the South like a big wheel through a Delta cotton field on Super Tuesday. She won seven states total, including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia in the South. She also won Massachusetts and American Samoa. Bernie Sanders emerged victorious in four states (Colorado, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Vermont), but his victories tended to come by smaller margins and in smaller states. The end result is that Clinton has a clear path to winning the nomination, and Sanderss only hope to derail her is for something very unusual to happen.
Weve now seen 15 states vote in the Democratic contest, and its clear that Clintons coalition is wider than Sanderss. Sanders has won only in relatively small states where black voters make up less than 10 percent of the population. Thats not going to work this year when black voters are likely to make up more than 20 percent of Democratic primary voters nationwide.
On Tuesday, we saw why. As she did in Nevada and South Carolina, Clinton won huge margins of black voters. Her worst performance was in Oklahoma, where 71 percent of black voters in the Democratic primary chose her. In Alabama, she won 93 percent of black voters on her way to winning 78 percent of Democrats overall. Clinton took no less than 64 percent of the overall vote in the Southern states she won.
It wasnt just black voters, either: Clinton dominated with Hispanics in Texas. There had been some questions about how Hispanics voted in Nevada, but there was little doubt in Texas. The exit poll showed Clinton with a 42 percentage point win among Hispanics, about the margin she won in counties such as Hidalgo, where Hispanics make up 91 percent of the population. Those results bode well for Clinton in states such as Arizona, California, Florida and New Mexico.
The end result is that Clinton will now have a substantial delegate lead. .............................

Let me speak here first and foremost as a proponent of sound, logical assessments and outlines of fact based reality that Dkos prides itself on. Two caveats: First, I am NOT saying Sanders should drop out. Second, I am not saying the Democratic primary is literally over, as Sanders will continue to be on the ballot, and Im aware no one has technically come close to getting the delegates needed to put the nomination away. Okay?
So lets move on first to the incredible goal-post moving with Massachusetts. Okay, that goal post moving isn't so surprising. Some Sanders supporters have put some damned good spin on Massachusetts. Clinton brand is strong here. She won the state by 16 points in 2008 even with almost all the establishment backing Obama. What a fantastic victory. Its logical on the surface, but if there is a key flaw its making out 2008 to be an anti-establishment vs establishment race, and saying the dynamics of 2016 are both the same and that Clinton is getting support from the same groups of voters, when its very much different. Okay, in 2008, Obama was not anti-establishment, after South Carolina he consistently lead Hillary Clinton in getting superdelegates, loads of big establishment figures were in his corner, and the race was also not, as per revisionist histories, breaking down on liberal versus conservative, as Hillary Clinton got roughly the same percentage of votes with self-described liberal Democrats as she did overall in the primary. So here are the two links you need to read to catch up to the true significance of Massachusetts this time: 538, and NYT coverage of the primary results in the second link.

Random thoughts and musing on the state of the Democratic race:
...............................................
On the flip side, the value of Clintons victory in Massachusetts cannot be overstated. It was a state tailor-made for Sandersmassive student population, relatively white (75 percent non-Hispanic white, when the national average is 63 percent), more affluent and educated. Oh, and it enjoyed the same next-door-neighbor status as New Hampshire. Sanders even had recent polling leads! The delegate allocation mightve ended up effectively tied, but this denied Sanders his first big-ish state win, and killed that silly Clinton can only win in the South and red states argument.
Sanders supporters need to stop with that South doesnt count argument. Seriously. Stop it. For starters, Southern Democrats deserve our respect and admiration for fighting the good fight deep in enemy territory. They have it harder than blue state Dems, by a longshot. They also donate, make calls, and help out in myriad ways. Andand this might be the most important pointSouthern Democrats are disproportionately people of color. So by arguing that they dont matter, you are arguing that a critical component of our partys base doesnt matter. So given Sanders existing difficulties with nonwhite Democrats, theres no reason to exacerbate those problems. Really, dont go there. You just come off as a d.........

Hillarys Trump strategy: Clinton has a secret weapon which Cruz and Rubio missed out on to take down the GOP front-runner

Hillary Clinton is doing what pretty much every Republican in the country failed to do shes taking Donald Trump seriously. After last nights Super Tuesday romp, its looking highly likely that Trump is on track to capture the Republican nomination. According to the New York Times, Team Clinton doesnt want to get caught flat-flooted in a potential race against Trump and is already gaming out different strategies for taking on the Republican front-runner and neutralizing whatever appeal he might conceivably have in a general election. And thats wise! The GOP underestimated Trump and the partys determined neglect allowed him to engineer a coup within the Republican electorate. And its not inconceivable that Trump could pose a significant threat to core Democratic constituencies in electoral-vote rich Midwest states. Regardless of what happens, theyre smart to be prepared.
As for the actual anti-Trump strategy, heres what the Times writes:
The plan has three major thrusts: Portray Mr. Trump as a heartless businessman who has worked against the interests of the working-class voters he now appeals to; broadcast the degrading comments he has made against women in order to sway suburban women, who have been reluctant to support Mrs. Clinton; and highlight his brash, explosive temper to show he is unsuited to be commander in chief.
Theres absolutely no shortage of material to work with on any of these fronts. Painting him as a predatory businessman shouldnt be too difficult Trump is already taking heat for his flagrant Trump University scam, ...................................

......................
"What a super Tuesday!" she exclaimed. She would go on to win two more later that night.
Super Tuesday was indeed a pivotal day for Clinton, who by winning seven states out of 11, notched all the victories she needed to in order to pull strongly ahead in the delegate race and make the case that she will be the eventual Democratic nominee. She even picked up one state her campaign wasn't expecting to win: Massachusetts.
On the biggest voting day of the primary season, Clinton defeated Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders across the South, racking up large double-digit victories in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia and Tennessee. She won the general-election swing state of Virginia. Her wide margins of victory in delegate-rich places like Texas and Georgia will help the former secretary of State pull even further ahead in the delegate count, making it difficult for Sanders to catch up delegate-wise going forward.
An especially big victory for Clinton was in Massachusetts, which is virtually Sanders's backyard. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Clinton led Sanders by 2 points in the state, winning by about 25,000 votes.......................
Sanders, by contrast, won in four states: Vermont, his home state, as well as Oklahoma, Colorado and Minnesota. Those four states, along with Massachusetts, were where his campaign had invested significant resources or put television advertisements on the air.
The results Tuesday night confirmed Clinton's strengths -- and Sanders's weaknesses -- carry over from the first four states, reinforcing her campaign's argument that she is the Democrat who can win in diverse states across the map. Among African Americans and Latinos, for example, she won by huge double-digit margins. She also did well among older voters, which tend to make up a larger share of the electorate than young voters do.
