Hillary Clinton is doing what pretty much every Republican in the country failed to do shes taking Donald Trump seriously. After last nights Super Tuesday romp, its looking highly likely that Trump is on track to capture the Republican nomination. According to the New York Times, Team Clinton doesnt want to get caught flat-flooted in a potential race against Trump and is already gaming out different strategies for taking on the Republican front-runner and neutralizing whatever appeal he might conceivably have in a general election. And thats wise! The GOP underestimated Trump and the partys determined neglect allowed him to engineer a coup within the Republican electorate. And its not inconceivable that Trump could pose a significant threat to core Democratic constituencies in electoral-vote rich Midwest states. Regardless of what happens, theyre smart to be prepared.
As for the actual anti-Trump strategy, heres what the Times writes:
The plan has three major thrusts: Portray Mr. Trump as a heartless businessman who has worked against the interests of the working-class voters he now appeals to; broadcast the degrading comments he has made against women in order to sway suburban women, who have been reluctant to support Mrs. Clinton; and highlight his brash, explosive temper to show he is unsuited to be commander in chief.
Theres absolutely no shortage of material to work with on any of these fronts. Painting him as a predatory businessman shouldnt be too difficult Trump is already taking heat for his flagrant Trump University scam, ...................................

(10,843 posts)The Republicans are beginning to wake up to this strategy. But as the article suggests, the GOP wasted precious time to actually get on top of the oppo research because . . . no one took The Donald seriously. Time is definitely Hillary Clinton's friend in the ultimate take down. The man does not have a political history but he definitely has a History. In fact, I've read that the Dems have spent the last 8-9 months collecting that history and only about 20% of the bad news has surfaced.
The other weapon is ridicule. Anyone who watched John Oliver this past Sunday witnessed a spectacular take down of the Hair that Ate New York. Brilliant and effective. Trump is not the Teflon Don. He's merely portrayed that way for ratings.
I also watched some of the post-election commentary. Of particular note were comments by Ben Ginsberg, a well-known Republican elections lawyer. The GOP will not go quietly into the night; they have certain cards up their sleeves which they will play ruthlessly. Ironic, too. Republicans always bray over the undemocratic nature of Super delegates but in this instance they're quite willing to pull out all the stops, the will of the voters be damned.
Expect fireworks on the horizon.

(1,353 posts)We've seen him become unhinged when attacked and to have him being taken down by Hillary will hit his ego in such a way that I don't think he will be able to control himself. She will be calm cool and collected and his head will explode on stage...could be fun to see...
I just hope a lot of damage will be done before the debates begin...and she can just come in for the final blow. I would also love to see the GOP panic enough to finally run a 3rd party candidate and then the Dems win easily...
