Trump passes on making U.N. racism committee nomination

The Trump administration will not nominate anyone to serve on a United Nations committee on racism, the latest sign of a U.S. retreat from international bodies and traditional human rights priorities.

A State Department official said the White House intervened to prevent the expected renomination of a human rights lawyer chosen by former President Barack Obama for the 18-member U.N. Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The official said the Trump administration may simply have run out of time to find a replacement before a deadline. Even so, the official added, “it cements the narrative that the Americans just don’t care about these kinds of things anymore.”

A senior Trump administration official, however, insisted otherwise.

“Although the United States did not nominate a candidate this year for election to the committee, that in no way diminishes our global leadership on efforts to eliminate racial discrimination,” the official said.

Sarah Sanders: Trump not wishing 'violence toward anyone' with 9/11 tweet

Source: The Hill

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Sunday that President Trump is not wishing "ill will" nor "violence toward anyone" after he tweeted a video showing images from the Sept. 11 attacks combined with remarks Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) gave at a recent speech.

"Certainly the president is wishing no ill will, and certainly not violence towards anyone,” Sanders said on ABC’s “This Week."

“But the president is absolutely and should be calling out the congresswoman for her not only one time but history of anti-Semitic comments," she added.

Cellist Yo-Yo Ma Plays Bach In Shadow Of Border Crossing

World-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma brought his Bach Project to the sister cities of Laredo, Texas, and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, on Saturday. Laredo's "Day of Action" featured performances in both cities to celebrate the relationship between the two communities.

Ma played the opening notes of Johann Sebastian Bach's "Suite No. 1 for Unaccompanied Cello" in a park next to the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge, one of the crossings that connect the U.S. and Mexican cities.

The Laredo performance took place on an elevated stage before an audience of officials and onlookers. Concerns over possible rain disappeared as Ma began to play in the morning sunshine.

Pete Buttigieg's campaign kickoff is a bonding moment for this father and son

WASHINGTON – Matthew Miller, 25, didn’t know how his family would react when he decided to tell them he is gay.

He certainly didn’t expect, five years later, to take a road trip to Indiana with his father – a Republican who proudly slapped a “Pete 2020” bumper sticker on his car – to witness Pete Buttigieg, the first openly gay Democratic candidate for president, officially kick off his campaign.

“My dad and I thought it would be a great moment to share together,” Miller told USA TODAY before departing from upstate New York.

Because both had to work Saturday, they planned to drive overnight to arrive at South Bend around 3 a.m. Sunday. To help keep them awake, they had the “buttijam” playlist that Buttigieg’s husband, Chasten, posted on social media Friday for all the road warriors.

Sen. Warren: The President is inciting violence against a sitting Congresswoman--

The President is inciting violence against a sitting Congresswoman—and an entire group of Americans based on their religion. It's disgusting. It's shameful. And any elected leader who refuses to condemn it shares responsibility for it.

There’s also the fact that he took $150k in state funds aimed at helping small businesses affected by 9/11 even though his business wasn’t hit nydailynews.com/news/politics/…

He claims that he could see people jumping from the towers even though he was 4 miles away at the time cnn.com/2015/11/23/pol…

He claims that he personally “lost hundreds of friends” in the attack, but there’s no actual connection between him and any of the victims thedailybeast.com/trump-wont-nam…

He’s just a terrible, terrible man.

Here he is repeating his lie about how he saw people jumping from the towers through his apartment window
