I heard that Harry Reid said if the Repubs continue to abuse the filibuster, he will have the option to revisit it. That sounds like they have made a deal during the next 2 years, the rules can still change if necessary. Is this correct??
Because the deal was not reached till January 1st,
did we technically go off the cliff? Or because January 1st was a holiday, were we saved by not going off the cliff? What is correct?
An Armed Guard at Every School?
I can't even imagine day after day, week after week, year after year a guard roaming the halls in every school in the country, waiting for the shooter. What happens when the guard has to use the bathroom, or is on the other side of the building, or is on break, etc.?
The only way I can even see this working is to have an armed guard in a look out tower, so he can view the entire grounds of the school. Then, he can alert the armed guard in the school and police. That could probably work.
Our schools will look like prison grounds. Wonder what that would do to our most young vulnerable kids being brought up with so much fear.
Of all things, cutting art, music and gym because we cannot afford it and replacing it with armed guards. Who is supposed to pay for this?
It is so damaging for the Repubs to keep bringing up how Christie
commended Obama on hurricane relief.
The Repubs don't need Obama getting credit for fast action.
But, aren't the Repubs showing their true colors on who the obstructionists really are when they have no problem throwing Christie under the bus for teaming up with Obama to help the people in need?
They have continuously for the last 4 years said Obama is the one who cannot work across the aisle, but this shows who the true obstructionists really are!!

I read this on Keith Olbermann's fanpage,
and wondering if anyone has heard anything about this:

Obama has had to pull away from the Campaign Trail
to help the people in need during this disaster on the east coast.
He has had to cancel his schedule for at least the next couple of days.
I remember Election 2008, he also had to take off a couple of days as he received word his grandma was dying.
I think Obama will be okay with the race while he is there for the people that need him most at this time.
I'm glad Bill Clinton is there to fill in.

It's still a man's world,
I was just reading these stories of women who were raped and had an illegal abortion pre 1973. It amazes me that we are still fighting to have this discussion today. The horror some young girls went through getting raped, then having to go through the horror of having to get an illegal abortion.
I was young 20ish in early 70's and remember daily watching the news and reading the newspaper. It was very common to hear or read about another female who went to a backdoor illegal abortionist or used a coat hanger and the girl would end up messed up physically or bled to death.
Of course, talking about legalizing abortion was very BIG news and I had mixed feelings about it. But, when I would think of what was going on at that time, women were so desperate they would put their lives on the line, then of course it seemed like the right thing to do, legalize abortions.
For so many who have not lived through those times, it doesn't register what an important issue this really is.
And then of course, these pro-lifers talk about what should happen to the pregnant girl instead of what they really should be asking,
what should we do to the rapist???? Isn't that something that the focus is on the girl and not the male?
