(146,288 posts)OK. They should vote. That's my strategy for them. They should show up and vote in every election and demonstrate that they matter, electorally.
They should vote however they want to vote. Right now, as it happens, Joe Biden is doing well with younger people. If he becomes the nominee, as I think is very, very likely, they can vote for him, or they can vote for Trump, or they can vote for some Green Party loser. It's up to them.
And here's the thing: If they do show up and vote in percentages over 50%, they will get noticed and they'll get catered to in the next election cycle. Right now, they make up a small percentage of the overall vote, so they're not being catered to so much.
They're unreliable voters. Unless things are just right for them, they stay home. Many stay home anyhow.
So, I encourage younger people to vote in numbers that get attention. When and if they do that, they'll have more clout.
Guess what, the younger voters especially don't show up to vote in primary elections, at least not here in Minnesota. So, those who do show up get to choose the general election candidates. You know who turns out in high percentages? Baby Boomers. That's who.
So, my strategy for younger voters is: Show up at the polling place. Make your wishes known by voting. You'll be amazed!
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
