9. Johnston here -- this post is nonsense

First, I did not block anyone -- and I never have. That is a fabrication by onecaliberal.

Second, there is no error in my piece. However if anyone here can show one it will be corrected promptly and forthrightly. My email is davidcayjohnston@me.com. BTW, onecaliberal managed to mangle two names, suggesting a lack of care about facts. Its Conason and Johnston.

Third, nobody tells me what to write. I tell editors what I have and they take or pass.

Fourth, I don't support or oppose any candidate, but I do hold them to their own standards and to uniform standards, as this column shows and so does every clip from my nearly 50 years of work.

Funny how one here seems to have noticed my 2-page spread in the Sunday New York Daily News which establishes what nonsense is in this thread. That piece shows that most Republicans support Bernie's economic policies, they just don't know it. http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/david-cay-johnston-agree-bernie-sanders-article-1.2521997

So, onecaliberal don't ever again make stuff up -- and forthrightly correct your falsehood, please.

To those who responded -- without making any independent check of the facts or evidently even reading my column -- don't mimic Donald Trump by assuming what is posted on the Internet is true.

I don't know what Hartman said on the air, but I do know he did NOT invite me on as his guest and so whatever he said was one-sided. Again, if anyone can show an actual error in my column it will be corrected.

The issues here are carefully explained in my column include Bernie not walking his talk on transparency. That is what journalists are supposed to do -- hold politicians accountable.

My column is here: http://www.nationalmemo.com/why-hasnt-bernie-sanders-released-his-tax-returns/

Bernie was around in 1973-75 so he knows the reasons this matters. Bernie knew he would be asked for his tax returns and he was starting at least last June (NPR and WashPost); his top spokesman sent me a false statement and since then has ignored my repeated inquiries, always a troubling indicator of future conduct. Bernie saying he released his 2014 return when he did not should trouble everyone. So should his failure to issue complete returns since at least 2007 and his excuse for not doing so. Just substitute for Sanders the name of a candidate you don't like and then ponder these matters.

Bernie knows that a Form 1040 is no more a tax return than the Preamble is our Constitution, as my column notes. If there is nothing there was has Bernie been hiding the full tax return despite many requests?

This goes to his judgment. It also puts him in the same territory as Cruz, Kasich and others and helps the future Dick Cheneys, Mitt Romneys and Trump's who want to wield power but also want to hide their tax returns. This is about good governance and shows, yet again, that I hold politicians to uniform standards regardless of party or anything else.

Of course if you would like to increase the risk of another felon as vice president and an un-indicted tax criminal conspirator in the Oval Office (whose tax guy plead guilty) then such issues of sound governance and accountability to the people don't matter.
