(21,774 posts)19. When I was 7 years old, and on
a limited diet following my tonsillectomy, ginger ale was included in the approved list from the doctor. Usually we didn'r have soda pop in the house (except during the Xmas holidays) because my father said he wasn't going to keep the dentist in business. So my brothers were envious and trotted the childhood complaint that it wasn't fair. I considered it payback for their scary teasing before the surgery.
As an adult, it was offered to me in the recovery room after surgeries. As the first thing allowed after the long pre-surgery fast, it tasted especially good.
I usually prefer root beer now, but occasionally buy Canada Dry or Vernor's.
