(8,175 posts)So, it's a bit presumptuous to tell people to "get over it", and imply they are immature, because they get excited when more votes seem to be accruing for Bernie. Even if it doesn't change his position in the race, it does validate some of the energy and excitement his supporters all shared.
As far as being discouraged as a new young voter. I think it's pretty easy to put people down for voter apathy. Many people know from experience that their battles will never be won in a country run by the Oligarchy and establishment, and have given up. Directing their focus to their own lives and circumstances seems like a more effective use of their energy. Individuals often don't see the forest for the trees. They don't realize their votes would count if only everyone who is eligible would get out and vote. But then a lot of us know the reality is a lot of people just won't vote, period. They are not into anything but personal circumstances.
If we had a real democracy, where our votes really counted and politics were not bought and owned by the Oligarchy, it would change a lot of apathy to energy again. But regardless, not everyone is into politics. Just because you are, does not make you more mature...just more aware.
