I do not support the USA's allowance to carry handguns - but nevertheless,
I've followed this case in the media, as well as on DU.

I've read extensively on different media, many of my links found here on DU - and googled for others.
Not every injury/death of a black person by a non-black is unjustified.
From what I've read, Zimmerman was fearful for his safety, and considering the laws (which I also disagree with - but the courts must deal with the laws as they stand in that state) what Zimmerman did was legal; maybe not necessary, but LEGAL!
That's sort of sad that, but that's the environment in most of the USA.
Something else most of the gang on DU seem to overlook
