The exact size of the protest was difficult to measure. Womens march organizers put the number at 750,000.
The Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement that well past 100,000 people attended but did not provide a more precise number. One law enforcement source said officials found it difficult to measure the size because the demonstrators ended up marching down multiple streets.
Officials said it appeared to be the largest since a massive 2006 immigration march downtown. The LAPD estimated that march drew 500,000, but organizers insisted the number was higher.
Veteran activist Jorge Rodriguez, 64, who helped organize the 2006 demonstration, said he thought Saturdays march appeared to be as large as the immigration event if not bigger.
