Dear Chief Justice Roberts,
Yesterday, you once again proved that the Supreme Court does not care about the rule of law when it involves a member of your own party. First, you denied the special counsel's request to provide an expedited ruling on Donald J. Trump's request for absolute immunity. After a unanimous ruling that denied the very idea of absolute immunity by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court then sat on yet another Trump appeal for weeks. Yesterday, the Court finally acted and came out with this one-page ruling that grants the plaintiff (Donald J. Trump) the right to argue this absurd immunity idea before the court on an expedited basis. Only expedited in this case means seven weeks from the date the order was issued. This is delay for the sake of making sure this case never goes to trial before the election. If Trump is re-elected, this case and democracy will descend into the abyss led by the Roberts Court.
You do not have to be a lawyer or an expert on Constitutional law to know that absolute immunity is antithetical to the very idea of democracy. It is hard to imagine how the court will do anything to clarify or improve upon the opinion already drafted by the D.C. Court of Appeals. The Supreme Court should have denied Trump's application to the court in order for this case to go to trial prior to the election . Instead, this court meddled in yet another election where the consequences of your inaction and delay will be immensely consequential. If you wonder why the public has such a low opinion of this court, it is because your decisions are not driven by the law or public service. This court's action is nothing more than a blatant partisan move.
