in terms of how fast their responses appear, to try to create the illusion that they're reasoning. Pretty sure that was mentioned by Grady Booch or Gary Marcus, who are two of my favorite computer experts to follow at times on Twitter. I've posted some of what they've written here.

Generative AI can instantly or almost instantly produce multiple different responses to prompts. With text, usually only one is offered, since multiple differing answers will immediately undercut how authoritative each one seems, and the AI companies want them to seem authoritative. But IIRC, Google's Bard was, at least at one time, offering multiple text responses (two, I think) simultaneously for users to choose from. Image generators usually offer multiple image responses, typically four, simultaneously seconds after being given a prompt, and if you don't like them, another four will appear just as quickly.

They're meant to be convincing and sometimes are because they were trained on vast amounts of stolen intellectual property that the AI companies are waging legal battles for, trying to escape being made to compensate those whose work they stole.
