(2,212 posts)If there has ever been a president with such serious personality flaws as this one, I don't know of him. Chief among them: pathological lying; lack of empathy; narcissism; racism; lack of education generally and about American democracy in particular; philandering; authoritarian tendencies.
Yes, we've had some very bad presidents in our past, but I think it's realistic to appraise Donald J. Trump as the worst of all time.
But focusing on just how bad Trump is risks missing the larger issues. He's a symptom of underlying ills in this nation. The political system is not working well for the average American, and that has created resentment, a desire for disruption, and a willingness to listen to demagogues. If the underlying conditions are not improved, we might find ourselves with a president even worse than Trump. Don't think it can't happen.
