(22,976 posts)For multiple reasons (or lack thereof), much of the world is in a wrestling match with autocracy/nationalism vs. democracy/tolerance. The UK, France, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and even Brazil are grappling with toxic nationalist movements/governments. This isnt helpful to your discomfort, but know that there WILL eventually be a reversal of this toxic tide.
I say this cautiously: your distress and overload make perfect sense, given whats occurring. Id be far more worried if you WERENT feeling this way. Again, small comfort, but realize that youre completely stable, rational and heed reality. Thats no small feat these days.
Your depletion is also normal, as were witnessing some very strange and unsettling events. But in order to stay on-balance and not slide into depression, you must distract yourself from the noise for awhile. Whatever interest gives you life, go there, really delve into it. Example: Ive gotten into playing guitar again; I collect vintage pre-WWII baseball and boxing cards; I also collect military minatures (toy soldiers ) and really delve into history. Astronomy is another interest that connects me with something bigger than the imagination. Anything that gives you life is on the table.
Final suggestion: Stay away from the media as much as possible. Youll feel a compulsion to check things out, but dont give in; think of it as toxic. Your rest and relaxation will build up your brains feel good neurotransmitters.
