5. If you can, check your dish

Way back in the 1990s when I first got DirecTV, I had a sudden total signal loss. I'd had the service about a month and we were just getting into fall and this was one of the first cool evenings

The DirecTV tech went through all kids of troubleshooting - we checked the wires, rebooted the box, started the TV over again, nothing worked. So the tech asked if I could see the dish from my house. Sure, I said, it's right outside the back door. So I got out a flashlight and opened the back door. EEK! A lizard had been sitting above the door and jumped on my head!

After I got the lizard off my head and safely on a bush near the door, I shone the light onto the dish - and totally lost it. When I could stop laughing - while the tech was asking if I was OK - I explained that a frog was sitting on the LNB. It was nice and warm compared to the cool night air. The tech asked where I lived - in a jungle? I told him I lived in Florida so this was sort of normal.

I got out a broom and knocked the poor frog off the dish and the signal was great. We never had a frog on the dish ever again and never had a total loss of signal again. I guess it was just one of those flukes!
