Another historical first...

Trump will be the only head of the 29 NATO states attending the summit in London this week who is being impeached, leading to possible {if somewhat unlikely} expulsion from office, for being a toady a traitor and a crook and this will not stop him acting like a bully bot arsehole for one single second. No other leaders, not one, zero, zilch rocking up having been accused of such egregious breaches of the offices they hold, just the President of the United States of America, and the supposed leader of the free world. Just another historical first brought to you by the Corrupter in Chief.

Donald Trump: Making America Groan {in Embarrassment} Again.

An indistinguishable shower of grinning authoritarian shitclowns snickering at everyone...

Gotta love this turn of phrase.
All of this... they take all for fools. They would see the world burn. Fuckers.

This day in 1955...

“By the force of our demands, our determination and our numbers, we shall splinter the segregated South into a thousand pieces and put them back together in the image of God and democracy.” John Lewis

Not all hero's wear capes and these white supremacist nazi fuckers who would see the return of those times must be defeated and boxed off for good.

Trump won't lose his job - but the impeachment inquiry is still essential

Assume that Trump is impeached on grounds that include a raft of federal crimes – bribery, treason, obstruction of justice, election fraud, money laundering, conspiracy to defraud the United States, making false statements to the federal government, serving as an agent of a foreign government without registering with the justice department, donating funds from foreign nationals, and so on.

Regardless of whether a sitting president can be indicted and convicted on such criminal charges, Trump will become liable to them at some point. But could he be pardoned, as Gerald Ford pardoned Richard Nixon 45 years ago?

Article II, section 2 of the constitution gives a president the power to pardon anyone who has been convicted of offenses against the United States, with one exception: “in Cases of Impeachment.”

If Trump is impeached by the House, he can never be pardoned for these crimes. He cannot pardon himself (it’s dubious that a president has this self-pardoning power in any event), and he cannot be pardoned by a future president.

Even if a subsequent president wanted to pardon Trump in the interest of, say, domestic tranquility, she could not.

Emphasis mine.

Now that is interesting... the whole article is worth a read on the link but this is the big point I took away from it. Even when the senate fails to do its job this is not over for Trump, there will be a reckoning that he cannot escape.

London Bridge Terrorist Attack: Should you ever intervene in a violent situation?

I am sure most of you saw the terrorist attack in London today. I am not going to rehash it here; it has been discussed in depth elsewhere. However, one of the standout moments for me in the entire story was the intervention of strangers. A bunch of chaps in the midst of this attack ran towards the terrorist and was not having it. In interviews afterwards some stated that they not scared. Better that they intervene than anyone else being hurt.

Now, I don’t know about any of you, but I do not think I would ever have the courage to do what these chaps did. I may think it a good idea (although probably not to be honest), I may want to intervene but common sense and good old fashioned fear would hit me upside the head, of that I am sure. Should I intervene in that situation? Probably not. Would I intervene? Probably not. Heh. I am a child of the troubles, self protection kicks in.

Of course we all know a story about a have a go hero who ended up on the wrong end of a gun, or knife. The chap that runs into trouble rather than running away with it. The chap that is probably in reality more of a hindrance than a help! But this is not about that chap. That chap needs validation and will always risk his neck.

Here we are talking of a different kind of chap. You in fact. I am not talking about your family here. Of course with family, instinct and adrenalin take over. I am talking about a random act of violence as witnessed by you. A mugging, a domestic violence incident, a robbery, an attack on the street.

I use the word SHOULD here by design. Would you intervene is probably a relatively easy question to answer. You know yourself and your instincts. However whether you should or not is a much thornier issue. Should you ever intervene in a violent situation? If so, what sort and why? What should be the trigger that stops you walking away? Or should you just not ever go there?

PS they are very brave chaps and well done them!

President Obama Appreciation Thread

Examining the misery and nasty of Trump is necessary but disheartening. So with thanksgiving tomorrow I figured we could lift the spirits going into the holidays by remembering with appreciation the last time America had a real President would be a marvellous way to go into the long weekend.

So to kick it off three words to describe President Obama, I am going with

Graceful
Insightful
Compassionate

On this thanksgiving remember if they liked facts they would not be Trump Supporters...

Deep breath, once more onto the breach and good luck with any Trumpsters around the Thanksgiving table! Heh.

Happy turkey day 🍗

'Democratic' candidate Mike Bloomberg has spent millions keeping the Senate in Republican control

It's becoming increasingly clear that the fact that Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are viable contenders for the Democratic nomination for president is the primary motivation for billionaire Michael Bloomberg to get in the race. Bloomberg doesn't want any part of his billions going to paying a fair tax rate, to fully funding government and all the programs that will help people and rebuild federal institutions. He doesn't want to pay taxes. He wants to direct the millions he spends on fighting gun violence or climate change very publicly and to have his name plastered on every penny.

Because he's fundamentally a Republican. He got into the mayor's office in New York City with the endorsement of former Mayor Rudy Giuliani. And he has spent millions—millions—on Republican congressional campaigns, including hosting a fundraiser for Rep. Peter King in 2018 and donating to Rep. Dan Donovan, who was defeated.
-----
It's hard to resist the notion that Bloomberg's political interests lie entirely in Michael Bloomberg, whether in preserving his wealth or in stroking his ego.

Look how well a billionaire picking and choosing a party to suit their own interests ended last election cycle.. Although to be fair, with Trump he is not really a billionaire, just a pretend one.
