But now that the final national midterm election has been called and Democrats have picked up their 40th House seat, we can take a look at the vote totals and do a bit of math. Just how good was the turnout for the Democratic Party and how bad will that be for the GOP going forward?

60 million plus votes. In a midterm. For Democrats. And if you're not already aware of it, Democrats don't vote in midterms which is why Republicans tend to win them.

Still, let's put that 60 million and change in context.

In 2016 Trump "won" with 62,979,636 votes
In 2014 83.2 million voted in total
In 2012 Romney lost with 60,933,504 votes
In 2010 90.9 million voted in total
In 2008 McCain lost with 59,948,323 votes
In other words, we just saw the left vote at almost presidential election level numbers. The right had a boost in numbers, too, reaching over 50 million votes but that's not even close to the increase in turnout on the left. Trump has been claiming that he wasn't on the ballot so Republicans didn't do as well but he spent months telling his base that he was, in fact, on the ballot. And in reality, he very much was. That is a huge problem for the GOP.

Of course she doesn’t care about the idea that Trump supporters could have colluded with Russians to steal the presidency. She cares about “the Wall.” But buried in the bile is a money quote about what keeps people like her and other Trump supporters up at night:

Florida and Texas are about five years away from turning solid blue. Trump was our last chance. After this, the country is never going to elect a Republican president again.


So the next time you watch one of those election night videos, remember: If Trump doesn't keep his immigration promises, Hillary might as well have won.


Trump will leave no legacy whatsoever. Without a wall, he will only be remembered as a small cartoon figure who briefly inflamed and amused the rabble.

The Post has more detail on those allegations today, and they’re absolutely shocking. From the Post:

The board is collecting sworn statements from voters in rural Bladen County, near the South Carolina border, who described people coming to their doors and urging them to hand over their absentee ballots, sometimes without filling them out. Others described receiving absentee ballots by mail that they had not requested. It is illegal to take someone else’s ballot and turn it in.

Among the allegations is that an individual who worked for the Harris campaign coordinated the effort to fill in, or discard, the ballots of Democratic voters who might have otherwise voted for McCready. Several of the affidavits come from elderly African-American voters.

What... the fuck. If these allegations are true, this is about as blatant as election tampering can get. Political operatives coming to the doors of elderly black voters and telling them to hand over their ballots, then discarding them if they were voting Democrat or filling them out for the Republican? Absolutely wild, and despicable.

Oklahoma Republican State Sen. Joseph Silk has pre-filed a bill he plans to introduced in February when the legislature is in session. SB 13, the “Abolition of Abortion in Oklahoma Act,” would give a fertilized egg all the same “rights, powers, privileges, justice and protections” as adult humans.

Which means if women have abortions — essentially, commit murder under this new bill — they could spend the rest of their lives in prison.
