Source: The Hill
Wall Street is nervous that political deadlock in Washington and a looming debt ceiling fight could lead to the unthinkable this year: a US debt default.
Washington has not been able to get a single thing of substance thing done since this Congress was established, so given that, there are a lot of reasons to be nervous that they wont get it done, said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moodys.
I think its important to be on high alert. I dont think Im on DEFCON 1 yet, but Im on the scale, he added.
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has told Congress that if it doesnt take action on the debt ceiling by September 29, the government will not be able to pay its bills. While most analysts believe Congress will act in time, the uncertainty weighs on the market.

Justice demands 1.3M IP addresses related to Trump resistance site
Source: The Hill
The Department of Justice has requested information on visitors to a website used to organize protests against President Trump, the Los Angeles-based Dreamhost said in a blog post published on Monday.
Dreamhost, a web hosting provider, said that it has been working with the Department of Justice for several months on the request, which believes goes too far under the Constitution.
DreamHost claimed that the complying with the request from the Justice Department would amount to handing over roughly 1.3 million visitor IP addresses to the government, in addition to contact information, email content and photos of thousands of visitors to the website, which was involved in organizing protests against Trump on Inauguration Day.
That information could be used to identify any individuals who used this site to exercise and express political speech protected under the Constitutions First Amendment, DreamHost wrote in the blog post on Monday. That should be enough to set alarm bells off in anyones mind.

Pence and Sessions go to extreme lengths to defend Trumps failure to denounce white supremacists
Source: Think Progress
On Saturday, President Trump reacted to a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville that resulted in the murder of an innocent counterprotester by pinning blame for this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence on many sides. His failure to specifically denounce white supremacist violence was roundly condemned, including by Republican members of Congress and a former Trump administration staffer.
But Trumps statement won praise from white supremacist groups. Daily Stormer, a neo-Nazi website, called Trumps remarks really good, noting he didnt attack us. The site commended Trump for ignoring questions from reporters about whether hell disavow the support of right-wing extremist groups.
On Sunday, Vanity Fair reporter Gabriel Sherman asked an unnamed senior White House official why Trump didnt specifically condemn the neo-Nazis and white supremacists who flooded the streets of Charlottesville. The official responded by asserting that the leftist mob was just as violent if not more so.

I am not a fan of this woman, her father or anyone else that goes around a trumpets the virtues of this BS of making it sound like it really is some kind of heartfelt moment of BS, it's still BS and needs to be called what it is.
Her father has at his feet the birther issue, second this woman uses economic racism to make a buck, just like her family and any other corporation in the country and the world, that is a reality of fact.
It started here in this land when explorers laid their greedy feet on this soil and other soils
All racism is based on economics, always has been and always will be, from India to the US, England, Ireland, South America, and any other place, no matter what century you lived in

Texas Set To Restrict Insurance Coverage For Abortion
Source: Talking Points Memo
By WILL WEISSERT and DAVID CRARY Published AUGUST 12, 2017 7:17 PM
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The Republican-controlled Texas Legislature is poised to restrict insurance coverage for abortions over the objections of opponents who say doing so could force some women to make heart-wrenching choices because no exceptions will be made in cases of rape and incest.
A bill requiring women to purchase extra insurance to cover abortions except amid medical emergencies already cleared the state House after hours of emotional debate. The Texas Senate could approve it Saturday night, sending the restrictions to Republican Gov. Greg Abbott to be signed into law.
State lawmakers debated other bills limiting insurance coverage for abortion during Texas regular legislative session that ended in May, but Abbott called a special session and revived the issue.
Ten states already have laws restricting insurance coverage of abortion in all private insurance plans: Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and Utah. All make exceptions if the mothers life is endangered; only Indiana and Utah also make exceptions for rape and incest.

NRA TV host apologizes for suggesting North Korea should nuke California
Source: The Hill
A host on the National Rifle Associations (NRA) online NRA TV has apologized for suggesting North Korea should launch a nuclear attack on California.
Let's send a note to North Korea that Sacramento changed its name to Guam!," NRA TV host Grant Stinchfield said in a since-deleted tweet.
Stinchfield was referencing North Koreas threats earlier this week in which the country said it was considering launching ballistic missiles toward the island of Guam.
Stinchfield told the New York Daily News on Friday that the tweet was meant as a joke.
It was meant as a joke and I regret it, he told the Daily News. Whats going on with North Korea is no laughing matter.

Top utilities are spending a lot of money to elect Republican governors
Source: Think Progress
The nations leading electric utility and their affiliated companies, along with top utility executives, contributed more than four times as much money to the Republican Governors Association in the first six months of 2017 than to the Democratic Governors Association, according to a new report.
Governors can have a significant impact on the activities of utility companies in their states, whether it is appointing members to state regulators commissions or developing energy policy. Most recently, Republican governors in Maine and Indiana played important roles in impeding the growth of clean energy in their states, UtilitySecrets.org, a joint project of the Energy and Policy Institute and the Center for Media and Democracy, stated in the report.
In Indiana, Gov. Eric Holcomb (R) signed a bill that shreds incentives for rooftop solar, delivering a blow to solar installers and their customers. In Maine, lawmakers failed to override Gov. Paul LePages (R) veto of a solar bill aimed at boosting rooftop solar growth. The actions by the Republican governors were supported by the electric utilities in the state.
There are two gubernatorial elections in 2017 and 36 in 2018. Twenty-six of these seats are currently held by Republicans. With West Virginia Gov. Jim Justices recent switch to the Republican Party, t.he GOP now holds 34 governorships, an all-time high for the party.
