White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney fired back at Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Saturday after the senator said negotiating with the president was like "negotiating with Jell-O."
"Mr. Schumer has to up his game and be more honest with the president of the United States if we are going to be seeing progress on that front," Mulvaney told reporters at the White House.
Mulvaney was referencing Schumer's claim that he offered to put Trump’s request for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border “on the table” at a White House meeting on Friday.
"Chuck Schumer actually had the gall to look at the president and said 'I am giving you everything asked for the wall and then when pressed he admitted that he was not doing it," he said.

US officials had concerns about Kushners handling of meetings with Chinese: report

Senior White House adviser and President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner held a number of meetings with China's ambassador without experts on China in the room, and in some cases alone, unnerving some current and U.S. officials.
Kushner met with China's ambassador to the U.S., Cui Tiankai, as well as Yang Jiechi, the country's top diplomat, both during the transition from his offices at 666 Fifth Avenue in New York City and in the White House upon joining the administration, The New Yorker reports.
At least some of those meetings were attended by then-national security director Michael Flynn, while others Kushner attended alone or with close aides, none of which were experts on China policy. Meetings held in the past between Tiankai and the Obama administration were held with multiple experts present on the U.S. side, the magazine reports.
In the months after Trump was sworn in, Kushner met with Tiankai more times than he could remember after meeting at least four times during the transition period.

Woman earns honorable discharge 60 years after Air Force kicked her out for being gay

A Pennsylvania woman earned her honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force this week, more than 60 years after she was discharged as "undesirable" for being gay.
NPR reported Saturday that Helen Grace James, 90, a former airman 2nd Class, received her honorable discharge this week after decades of fighting the government for recognition.
James was investigated for homosexuality and subsequently discharged from the service in 1955 after investigators threatened to tell her family she was gay. She was told to sign a statement and was discharged as "undesirable," according to NPR.
"I'm still trying to process it," she told NBC. "It was both joy and shock. It was really true. It was really going to be an 'honorable discharge.'"

Prosecutors drop charges against more than 100 inauguration riot defendants

Federal prosecutors are dropping charges against more than 100 people arrested in the Inauguration Day protests.
The Office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia announced Thursday that it would proceed with charges against 59 defendants.
More than 200 people were arrested during the protests on charges ranging from conspiracy to engage in a riot to destruction of property.
A jury in a D.C. Superior Court last month acquitted six people on all charges, leaving 188 who were scheduled to face trial in small groups throughout this year.

After a shocking win in a rural Wisconsin senate race Tuesday, Democrats are feeling increasingly bullish they can win another target deep in Trump territory, flip their first House seat since Trump’s 2016 victory and strike fear into the hearts of Republicans across the country.
Their target: a blue-collar southwestern Pennsylvania House seat recently vacated by disgraced former Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA) in territory national Democrats haven’t seriously contested this decade.
Strategists in both parties see a surprisingly close race developing in the district ahead of the March 13 special election. After some major investments, Republicans are pulling out the big guns on Thursday: A visit from President Trump himself, who will hold an official event on the district’s edges where he’s expected to boost the Republican candidate.
“Clearly there’s a lot of intensity and energy on the Democratic side and they’ve outperformed their recent numbers in other special elections. We’ve got to take this very, very seriously,” Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) told TPM. “I do think we are taking this seriously and I think we’re going to win, but we’re not going to be asleep at the switch.”

Richard Spencer Asks To Speak At Kent State On Anniversary Of Deadly Shooting

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — The campus tour organizer for white nationalist Richard Spencer is making a bid for him to speak at Kent State University this spring on the anniversary of the shootings during a Vietnam war protest that killed four students.
A university spokesman confirmed Thursday that organizer Cameron Padgett has asked to rent space at Kent State’s Student Multicultural Center on May 4.
The university would only say that it’s reviewing the request, said Eric Mansfield, a Kent State spokesman.
Spencer, a leading figure in the white nationalist movement, has been barred by several schools from speaking on campus and has lawsuits pending against some.

Kaine, Warner say they will oppose House funding bill

Virginia's Democratic senators say they will oppose the House plan to fund the government, putting the bill on an increasingly uphill path in the Senate.
"We oppose the House Continuing Resolution, which punts budget discussions until mid-February," Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine said in a joint statement Thursday.
"Republican leadership has to get serious about finding a budget deal and quit relying on short-term patches."
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has almost no room for error to pass the funding bill through his chamber, assuming it first passes the House
