Sometimes I think the framers of the Constitution made plans for dealing with madman as President by having checks in the system like the Congress and the Courts. At other times, I think the framers said an Executive branch could run things when you had a feckless Congress. Unfortunately, I don't think they planned for a simultaneous madman as President and a feckless and complicit Congress. Like the Titanic, our Democracy will sink if too many watertight doors are holed and fill with water.

In 1917 the Red Sox pitcher and catcher were tossed by the umpire for arguing balls and strikes after the first batter walked. When the Red Sox brought in a new pitcher and catcher the base runner was promptly thrown out trying to steal second. The pitcher then retired the next 26 batters in a row. For a while he was credited with a Perfect Game. Not anymore though.
