" Trump likes to talk about the most, the best, the thing that nobody has ever seen." death count...

I really want to be the one to smack that smug look off Trumps face!!

He has already been bragging about how his Adm. has reduced the numbers. But he had to up the count to 100,000 yesterday at the pres. conference.

Grim count: US virus toll passes Trump’s 60,000 marker

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump likes to talk about the most, the best, the thing that nobody has ever seen.

Now he is trying to make a virtue of a lower number, arguing that the efforts of his administration have warded off a far greater death toll than otherwise would have been seen.

But the reported U.S. death toll on Wednesday crept past 60,000, a figure that Trump in recent weeks had suggested might be the total death count. He had cited the estimate as a sign of relative success after the White House previously warned the U.S. could suffer 100,000 to 240,000 deaths.

“I don’t think anybody’s done a better job -- with testing, with ventilators, with all the things that we’ve done,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Thursday. “And our death totals — numbers per million people — are really very, very strong. We’re very proud of the job we’ve done.”

Trump also has repeatedly used the outer band of any estimate — the potential that 2.2 million Americans could have died had there been no interventions — to try to make his case most powerfully.

The U.S. death toll from COVID-19 is certain to keep growing from here.

And, like the unemployment rate, the numbers also will be revised — and likely upward, due to underreporting. The focus on death tallies also overlooks other important markers such as immunity levels and infection rates. ...........................

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is still all-in on getting reelected, but he’s also set to take the first steps to formally prepare someone else to take over if he loses on Nov. 3.

Trump is standing up a council under the first deployment of the Presidential Transition Act by an incumbent running for another term after Congress moved in 2015 to better ensure continuity of government when one president hands off to another.

Making sure presidential candidates are ready to take charge of the federal government became a priority after the Sept. 11 attacks, but the effort takes on new urgency because of the coronavirus pandemic and associated economic turmoil.

“The relevance of transition planning has intensified since it could be the first election since 1932 where we had more than 20% unemployment, more than twice as high as the unemployment rate in 2008,” said David Marchick, director of the Center for Presidential Transition at the nonpartisan Partnership for Public Service. “You add to that a health crisis and the potential for a virtual transition. The degree of complexity has increased significantly.”

Under the act, Trump must name members of the transition council and a senior White House employee to chair it no later than six months before Election Day, which is Sunday. Trump is expected to tap Chris Liddell, deputy chief of staff for policy coordination, according to two senior administration officials. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss internal plans..........................

President Donald Trump waited until late Friday night to announce that he was replacing a top official at the Department of Health and Human Services who embarrassed him with a report pointing out supply shortages and testing delays due to the coronavirus pandemic weeks ago, reports the New York Times.

According to the report, “The White House waited until after business hours to announce the nomination of a new inspector general for the department who, if confirmed, would take over for Christi A. Grimm, the principal deputy inspector general who was publicly assailed by the president at a news briefing three weeks ago.”

The move, although not entirely unexpected due to the president’s penchant for firing anyone who in critical of his actions, set off a firestorm on Twitter, with commenters pointing out that this is just another example of the president’s desire to hide his failures.

Trump Moves to Replace Watchdog Who Identified Critical Medical Shortages

The president announced the nomination of an inspector general for the Department of Health and Human Services, who, if confirmed, would replace an acting official whose report embarrassed Mr. Trump.

.................Her report, released last month and based on extensive interviews with hospitals around the country, identified critical shortages of supplies, revealing that hundreds of medical centers were struggling to obtain test kits, protective gear for staff members and ventilators. Mr. Trump was embarrassed by the report at a time he was already under fire for playing down the threat of the virus and not acting quickly enough to ramp up testing and provide equipment to doctors and nurses.

“It’s just wrong,” the president said when asked about the report on April 6. “Did I hear the word ‘inspector general’? Really? It’s wrong. And they’ll talk to you about it. It’s wrong.” He then sought to find out who wrote the report. “Where did he come from, the inspector general? What’s his name? No, what’s his name? What’s his name?”

When the reporter did not know, Mr. Trump insisted. “Well, find me his name,” the president said. “Let me know.” He expressed no interest in the report’s findings except to categorically reject them sight unseen.

After learning that Ms. Grimm had worked during President Barack Obama’s administration, Mr. Trump asserted that the report was politically biased. In fact, Ms. Grimm is not a political appointee but a career official who began working in the inspector general office late in President Bill Clinton’s administration and served under President George W. Bush as well as Mr. Obama. She took over the office in an acting capacity when the previous inspector general stepped down....

E. Jean Carroll slams Kayleigh McEnany's dismissal of Trump assault allegations

Source: raw story

Published 3 hours ago on May 1, 2020

On Friday, at White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany’s first briefing, reporters asked her why the two dozen allegations of harassment, groping, and sexual assault against President Trump are less credible than former Senate staffer Tara Reade’s allegation against former Vice President Joe Biden. McEnany dismissed the question, saying those were “old allegations.

This explanation didn’t sit well with advice columnist E. Jean Carroll, one of the most recent of Trump’s alleged victims to come forward:

Carroll has alleged that Trump raped her in a department store in the late 1990s. She furthermore claims to still have the dress she was wearing when she was attacked, and is suing to attempt to obtain a DNA sample from the president that could prove her claim

Some children with COVID-19 are experiencing symptoms similar to Kawasaki disease

There is so much we do NOT know about the novel #coronavirus

Coronavirus and the human bodyPeople are exposed to a coronavirus through mucusn membranes of the eyes, nose and mouth via respiratory droplets.

In less than 24 hours, Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C., admitted several children with COVID-19 who are also experiencing a constellation of symptoms that resemble "Kawasaki disease," a rare inflammatory syndrome typically affecting children under the age of 5.

On Wednesday, a representative from Children's National Hospital said the children exhibited “Kawasaki-like characteristics," joining a growing number of hospitals in the U.S. and U.K. that have reported similar cases. The representative has since confirmed that one of these children was officially diagnosed with Kawasaki disease. Symptoms of the disease include fever, rash, eye irritation, swollen lymph nodes and/or swelling of the hands and feet.

The disease- has been linked to COVID-19 in some children, but the exact cause remains a medical mystery.

These American cases are raising new concerns of a new global pattern emerging of critically ill children with COVID-19.

On Sunday, the Paediatric Intensive Care Society (PICS) in the U.K. tweeted about a rise in cases of children in critical condition. These children were manifesting a “hyperinflammatory state” that was “multi-system” and seemed to share common features with two existing rare diseases, alarming medical experts.

The link between Kawasaki syndrome and COVID-19 is still not well established. The UK Kawasaki Disease Foundation released a statement Wednesday, saying that many children with the disease tested negative for COVID-19 and “there is no current evidence of any increased incidence or greater susceptibility to COVID-19 infection for children who had Kawasaki Disease in the past.” ......................

Intelligence officials and disease experts are shooting down Trump's claim that the US has good reason to believe the coronavirus originated in a Wuhan lab
Ashley Collman 7 hours ago

President Donald Trump on Thursday said he had seen evidence that the coronavirus outbreak originated in a research lab in Wuhan, China, but is "not allowed to tell anyone" what it is.

A few hours later, The Washington Post published a report — citing intelligence officials and disease experts — that contradicted this claim.
The Post's sources said there's no evidence connecting the outbreak to the lab, and that the lab accident theory is possible but not likely.

President Donald Trump on Thursday said he had seen evidence that shows the coronavirus originated in a Chinese lab, but US intelligence sources and disease experts seem to be contradicting this claim.

At Thursday's White House daily coronavirus press briefing, Trump said US authorities were looking into the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which has previously conducted extensive research on coronaviruses that originate in bats...................................

When a reporter asked him if he had seen "anything that gives you a high degree of confidence" that the coronavirus originated in this lab, Trump said: "Yes I have," but added he's "not allowed to tell" anyone about the intelligence.....................

Sen. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, said he and his colleague Sen. Tim Scott would allow a $600 per week pandemic unemployment benefit to extend past July "over our dead bodies."
Graham and Scott appeared at an April 29 meeting for AccelerateSC, Gov. Henry McMaster's task force dedicated to reopening the state's economy during the coronavirus crisis.
The CARES Act provides three types of coronavirus-related unemployment benefits, including an additional $600 per week for people who are unemployed because of the coronavirus.
Graham and Scott said giving people increased unemployment benefits would incentivize them to stay home rather than return to work, therefore slowing South Carolina's economic recovery.

University of Delaware says it still has no plans to release Biden's Senate papers, as pressure mounts

Updated 8:44 AM ET, Fri May 1, 2020

(CNN)The university that possesses a trove of Joe Biden's Senate papers told CNN on Thursday that there are still no plans to make them public now, as pressure grows on Biden's presidential campaign to release records that some say could potentially shed light on a sexual assault allegation against the presumptive Democratic nominee, which his campaign denies.

The University of Delaware said in a statement provided to CNN that the school is still "curating the collection" and the process is not expected to end until well into 2021. And even after the curation is finished, a spokeswoman for the school told CNN, the school would not release the papers until two years after Biden retires from public life.

"The University of Delaware received the Biden Senatorial Papers as a gift from Vice President Biden. We are currently curating the collection, a process that we estimate will carry at least into the spring of 2021," spokeswoman Andrea Boyle said in the statement. "As the curating process is not complete, the papers are not yet available to the public, and we are not able to identify what documents or files can be found within the collection."

Biden said in a statement on Friday morning that his papers at the university do not contain personnel files. But, he said, personnel files from the Senate during those days would be kept at the National Archives.

"I am requesting that the Secretary of the Senate ask the Archives to identify any record of the complaint she alleges she filed and make available to the press any such document. If there was ever any such complaint, the record will be there," Biden said.
Biden said in an interview with MSNBC Friday morning that the his papers at the University of Delaware will remain sealed because they could become political "fodder" during his presidential campaign.

"The idea that they would all be made public while I was running for office can be taken out of context," Biden said. He added that the documents would cover topics like meetings with foreign heads of state.......................

Pence wears face mask during tour of General Motors plant

By Brett Samuels - 04/30/20 02:04 PM EDT

Vice President Pence on Thursday donned a face mask as he toured a General Motors plant in Indiana, marking the first time he's worn a mask on camera.

It came just days after he defended his decision not to wear one in defiance of the Mayo Clinic's policy on a visit to Minnesota.

The vice president was joined by White House trade adviser Peter Navarro, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb (R) on the trip to the GM plant. All wore masks during the tour of the facility, which has been converted to produce ventilators.

"You’re making a difference for America,” Pence told one employee, flashing a thumbs-up to others.
