Seriously folks,

quit whining about the Electoral College.

The EC did not fall from the sky unnoticed. It's been sitting there in the Constitution since ratification. Four times previously it resulted in a wonky election, most recently 2004. What was done when Democrats took power in 2008 to change or eliminate the EC? Nothing.

The election strategy was not "Let's win the popular vote to show what the people want." It was the road to 270.

It has been three weeks

and is time to start accepting some facts:

-Trump is not going to quit. Since he announced he was running everyone has treated it as a joke and predicted when he will deliver the punchline and drop out. Didn't happen before his nomination, didn't happen after, didn't happen at the 11th hour before the election when every poll predicted a loss. It isn't going to happen.

-he is not going to be removed for mental incompetence. For Republicans to do so would be an admission that they nominated and supported a lunatic for President. They will never do so barring some drastic action that they can legitimately claim to have had no prior knowledge of such a deficiency. Being an arrogant, racist, misogynist asshole was known well ahead of time.

-we are not going to get to vote over due to widespread fraud or outside involvement. First off all such theories are still speculation. Second to have a new vote because a foreign agency was able to affect the Presidential election on a national scale would be the greatest failing of our intelligence and security agencies in the history of the country. Pearl Harbor and 9/11 would be the equivalent of a 'made you look' joke by comparison. Such a breach would be dealt with outside of the public eye or media scrutiny.

-the recount will amount to nothing. Some votes will change but not enough for even one state to change its electoral votes.

-the electoral college will do exactly what it is in place to do. They will vote to confirm the majority vote of their state. The electors are selected by the party they represent. A difference of 1% between the predicted electoral total and the actual result will be shocking

-the electoral college was not some buried secret Constitutional quirk. It was well known ahead of time and much discussion took place here about how many electoral votes were needed to win the election. We well knew that total popular vote had no bearing on winning the White House and was nearly assured to be in favor of Hillary. The key was to win by state to get electoral votes. We failed. Not only did we miss out on nearly every swing state, but we lost in states that were so assuredly going to vote Democrat that little to no effort was put into swaying to voters in those states.

-no matter what we think of and demographic, they did not cost us the election. Over 90,000,000 votes were left on the table claimed by no one. Those people stayed home. If we could have convinced 1% of them to GOTV the election would have been very different.

Why face so much negativeness? To finish the grief process. The world did not end on November 8 but no amount of wishing, hoping or what if-ing is going to change who will be sworn in as President in January. We need to move to the end of the grief cycle. To paraphrase:

ACCEPTANCE & HOPE-
During this, the last stage in this grief model, you learn to accept and deal with the reality of your situation. Acceptance does not necessarily mean instant happiness. Given the pain and turmoil you have experienced, you can never return to the carefree, untroubled YOU that existed before this tragedy. But you will find a way forward.

You will start to look forward and actually plan things for the future. There are more elections to come.
