Criminal Occupational Hazard #38-
Back up swords
Woman stops intruder with medieval combat training, sword
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (WTNH) An Indiana woman used her medieval combat training and a sword to stop a home intruder Thursday night.
According to the Indy Star, 43-year-old Karen Dolley woke up around midnight to the voice of a man in her Indianapolis home. When she got out of bed and turned the lights on, she saw him standing in her living room. Dolley, who stands at 56?, told the paper thats when her instincts kicked in and she immediately began to attack him, punching him about 10 times and cornering him in her bedroom.
While at first she tried to reach for her gun, she opened the wrong drawer. But she was able to reach for her back-up weapon, a Japanese-style ninjato sword, which she keeps near her bed. Dolley pointed the sword at the suspect until she called 911 and police arrived.
I didnt think I was getting good blows in but my knuckles are bruised today. Hitting someone like that, it isnt like the movies. Youre expecting it to be louder and see people jerk around, but thats not how it happens in real life, Dolley told the Indy Star.

The article analyses why they are ignored by half the debate. I wonder if anyone can have input from the other half as to why this group is ignored.
Most gun owners support restrictions. Why aren’t their voices heard?
Most gun owners support restrictions. Why arent their voices heard?
Once again, their voices are missing from the debate.
Gun owners who favor tighter restrictions on firearms say they are in the same position after the mass shooting in Oregon as they have been following other rampages shut out of the argument.
The pattern, they say, is frustrating and familiar: The what-should-be-done discussion pits anti-gun groups against the National Rifle Association and its allies, who are adamantly opposed to any new restrictions on weapons.
Gun owners who occupy the middle ground complain that they are rarely sought out or heard, yet polls show that the majority of gun owners support universal background checks and other controversial limits. President Obama is reportedly considering using his executive authority to impose new background-check requirements for high-volume dealers in private sales and many gun owners may support that.

Tough Words From Judge as She Sends Abuse Victim to Jail
A recently released video shows the dramatic testimony of a domestic violence victim emotionally pleading with a judge as she is sentenced to jail time for ignoring a subpoena to appear at her alleged abuser's trial.
On July 30, when the video was taken, the mother of a 1-year-old child appeared before Judge Jerri Collins in a Seminole County courtroom for a contempt of court hearing.
"Your honor, I'm very sorry for not attending the last one," she said through tears. "I've been dealing with depression and just a lot personally since this happened. My anxiety is like, this is everyday for me."
According to court documents, the victim was holding her child inside a Florida residence April 2 when the child's father allegedly choked her and grabbed a kitchen knife. He was arrested. In a statement, the State Attorney's Office said the man accused in the case had a prior domestic violence battery conviction.
