More than a year from Michigan's 2020 presidential primary elections, it's anyone's guess as to who will emerge as the Democratic Party front-runner to challenge President Donald Trump.
A growing field of elected officials and public figures have thrown their hat into the ring, many of whom indicated Michigan will play a key role in choosing the country's president. Michigan helped elect Trump after supporting President Obama in 2008 and 2012, then elected Democratic candidates to statewide offices during the 2018 midterm elections.
U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-NY, and former Texas Congressman Beto O'Rourke both made stops in Oakland County on March 18. The Democrats both said candidates need to court Michigan voters more aggressively than in 2016.
Meanwhile, Trump is planning a March 28 campaign rally in Grand Rapids.

Elizabeth Warren wants to kill the electoral college
Many Democrats, including Warren, have disparaged the electoral college following the presidential election results in 2000 and 2016, when Al Gore and Hillary Clinton both won the national popular vote, yet lost the electoral college vote and, as a result, the presidency.
The announcement from Warren, a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, came during an hour-long town hall at Mississippi’s Jackson State University and amid a wave of (blue-leaning) state action to do the same.
On Sunday, Colorado joined 11 other states and the District of Columbia in the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. Members pledge to give their electoral votes to whichever candidate wins the national popular vote.

Trump campaign manager: George Conway 'jealous' of Kellyanne Conway's success
Brad Parscale claimed in a tweet that Trump turned down George Conway for a job in the Department of Justice, though Conway issued a statement in June 2017 that he was withdrawing from consideration for the post.

Insulting Putin May Now Land You in Jail Under a New Russian Law

President Vladimir Putin signed laws punishing online media and individuals for spreading “fake news” or material that’s considered insulting to Russian officials.
Prosecutors can now complain about online publications to the state communications watchdog, which has powers to block access to the websites if their owners fail to remove the material promptly. Publications found guilty of spreading “unreliable socially significant information” may face fines of as much as 1.5 million rubles ($23,000).
Individuals also face fines and up to 15 days in jail if they publish material online that expresses “clear disrespect for society, the state, the official state symbols of the Russian Federation, the Constitution of the Russian Federation and bodies exercising state power.”
The measures were attacked during their passage through parliament by the Presidential Human Rights Council, which warned of their potential use as methods of repression against critics of the authorities. Putin signed the legislation after thousands of people protested in Moscow earlier this month against Kremlin plans to establish a “Sovereign internet” that would route online traffic mostly through domestic servers and exchanges.

Man Charged With Mob Boss Murder Flashes Pro-Trump Slogans In Court

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — The man charged with killing the reputed boss of the Gambino crime family wrote pro-Donald Trump slogans on his hand and flashed them to journalists before a court hearing Monday.
Anthony Comello, 24, was arrested Saturday in New Jersey in the death of Francesco “Franky Boy” Cali last week in front of his Staten Island home.
While waiting for a court hearing to begin in Toms River, New Jersey, in which he agreed to be extradited to New York, Comello held up his left hand.
On it were scrawled pro-Trump slogans including “MAGA Forever,” an abbreviation of Trump’s campaign slogan “Make America Great Again.” It also read “United We Stand MAGA” and “Patriots In Charge.” In the center of his palm he had drawn a large circle. It was not immediately clear why he had done so.
