Trump to Bar Abortion Referrals By Family Planning Clinics

Source: Bloomberg/AP

Washington (AP) -- The Trump administration says it will prohibit taxpayer-funded family planning clinics from referring women for abortions, a move certain to be challenged in court by abortion rights supporters.

The policy released Friday by the Health and Human Services Department pleased religious conservatives, a key building block of President Donald Trump's political base.

The administration plan would also prohibit family planning clinics from being housed in the same location as abortion providers.

Planned Parenthood has said the administration appears to be targeting them.

Absorbing Vincent: Van Gogh goes immersive in Paris exhibition

PARIS (Reuters) - A Paris gallery is offering visitors the chance to immerse themselves in the colourscapes of Vincent Van Gogh like never before.

L’Atelier des Lumieres is projecting digitized, multilayered versions of some of the artist’s most famous works, including “Starry Night Over the Rhone” and “Churchyard in the Rain”, onto its floor and walls

Conveying at different stages the illusion of water rippling in the light and raindrops falling, the show is accompanied by a rich soundtrack.

“Obviously, we have “The Starry Night,” we have the sunflowers, we have the irises,” gallery director Michael Couzigou told Reuters TV.

“The idea here is to propose something that’s different from classic museums. It’s to allow the visitors to really get inside the paintings.”

If you get a letter in the mail that that looks like this, DON'T THROW IT AWAY!

Please tell the servicemembers and veterans in your life: If you get a letter in the mail that that looks like this, DON’T THROW IT AWAY!

These gold-colored envelopes contain letters from an organization called RIP Medical Debt, which buys and forgives the medical debt of those in need.

Our readers have contributed enough money to forgive more than $5 million in debt owed by servicemembers, veterans and their families. Letters telling 730 military families across the country that their bills have been paid off are going out NOW.

Debt bought is forgiven at random, so a military family might get a letter even if they didn’t apply for help. Please help spread the word!

The Daily 202: Barack Obama criticizes pop culture for promoting the wrong values to young men

THE BIG IDEA: Barack Obama pleaded with a crowd of teenagers on Tuesday night to defy stereotypes about what it means to be a man of color.

“We live in a culture where our worth is measured by how much money we have and how famous we are,” the former president lamented in Oakland, Calif. “I will tell you, at the end of the day, the thing that will give you confidence is not that. I know a lot of rich people that are all messed up!”

Joined onstage by Golden State Warriors basketball star Steph Curry, Obama decried bullying and selfishness while imploring young people who are involved in his My Brother’s Keeper initiative to pursue causes greater than themselves. He explained the concept of self-worth and touted the virtues of being sensitive to other people’s feelings. He criticized materialism and encouraged monogamy.

“If you are really confident about your financial situation, you probably are not going to be wearing an eight-pound chain around your neck because you know, ‘I got bank. I don’t have to show you how much I’ve got because I feel good,’” Obama said. “If you are very confident about your sexuality, you don't have to have eight women around you twerking … because [you know], ‘I’ve got one woman, who I am very happy with. And she’s a strong woman.’”
