Environment Undercover footage of violence at dairy farm prompts RSPCA investigation
The RSPCA is investigating a British farm, after undercover footage which appears to show dairy cows and calves being force fed, punched and beaten was released by an animal rights group.
The footage, taken on a farm in Buckinghamshire, appears to show workers beating and swearing at dairy cows. Later in the footage, workers appear to drag young calves across the floor, and at one point appear to be force-feeding a young calf, as well as beating it. At one point a cow appears to be attempting to tend to a still-born calf.
The footage was obtained over July and August of last year by Animal Rights group Surge. It has been released on their website.
The farm in question has been named by the activist group as C J and G R Carnell dairy farm. The Guardian spoke to the farm, but they said they would not be able to comment as they had not at that time seen the footage. Subsequent attempts to contact them have not been successful.

Ed Winters, co-director of Surge, said: “The footage seen here shows not only a flagrant violation of the safety of these animals, but points to the wider systemic issues found throughout the whole dairy industry.”
He goes on to say that the footage also shows the reality of “the separation of new-born calves from their mothers.”

A Top U.S. General Told Senators He Sees No Military Threat at Southern Border

(WASHINGTON) — Under pointed questioning from senators, the top U.S. general for homeland defense said Tuesday that he sees no military threat coming from the southern border with Mexico, but his focus is on “very real” threats from China and Russia in the north.
Air Force Gen. Terrence O’Shaughnessy, commander, U.S. Northern Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command, told a Senate committee that proposed barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border could increase security against any potential military threats coming from the south. But he said Russia’s advancements in training and capabilities, and its intent to hold the U.S. at risk, present an urgent threat to America.
President Donald Trump has declared a national emergency along the southern border to fund his proposed wall, and he plans to use Defense Department funds from military construction and counter-drug programs to pay for it. Members of Congress are challenging that.
Democratic senators on the Senate Armed Services Committee peppered O’Shaughnessy with questions about the need to divert the money from existing projects and questioned the validity of a national emergency declaration.

Michael Cohen reportedly plans to accuse Trump of crimes in House testimony
On Wednesday, February 27, Michael Cohen — President Donald Trump’s longtime personal lawyer and fixer — is scheduled to publicly testify before the House Oversight Committee. The hearing begins at 10 am ET and can be watched live online on the committee’s website.
The hearing promises to be explosive. While questions specifically about Russia will be off the table due to special counsel Robert Mueller’s continuing investigation, Cohen will be questioned about Trump’s business practices and hush-money payments to women who alleged affairs with Trump during the 2016 campaign.
Cohen spent about a decade as Trump’s lawyer and as a Trump Organization executive. But last year, he fell under FBI investigation and had a bitter falling out with the president. Eventually, he pleaded guilty to financial crimes, campaign finance violations regarding the hush-money payments, and lying to Congress about his efforts to strike a Russian business deal for Trump. He’s set to begin a three-year prison sentence for those crimes on May 6.
Cohen was originally scheduled to testify to the Oversight Committee earlier this month, but he refused to appear, citing “threats against his family” from President Trump and Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who have both made innuendos about potential criminality from Cohen’s father-in-law.

Trump bets it all on friendship with Kim
He had known plenty of people who had grown up wealthy and whose families were powerful, Trump told Kim Jong Un, the despotic North Korean dictator whose father and grandfather held the same role.
Many of them emerged messed up, Trump said. But, he added, Kim wasn't one of them.
Of course, Kim rules North Korea with an iron fist and a disregard for human rights. And his stature was gained through birth, not hard work. But Trump's choice of praise for his new negotiating partner, relayed by a person familiar with the conversation, reflects the US President's determination to flatter his way to nuclear peace in Asia.

Florida Mom Discovers Suicide Instructions in YouTube Videos For Children
Dr. Free Hess, from Gainesville, Florida, found the 9-second-long suicide instructions sandwiched between clips of the Nintendo game Splatoon last week and shared it online to caution other parents. "Remember kids, sideways for attention, longways for results," a man said while demonstrating the cutting motion on his arm. "End it."
The man, identified by CBS News as YouTuber Filthy Frank, has over 6.2 million followers and refers to himself in the description of his page as “the embodiment of everything a person should not be.” There is no evidence that Frank, whose real name is reportedly George Miller, inserted the suicide instructions into the video.
Hess said the clip was found in at least two videos uploaded to YouTube and YouTube Kids since July. "Looking at the comments, it had been up for a while, and people had even reported it eight months prior," she told CBS News.

Donald Trump Claims Ivanka Has 'Created Millions of Jobs,' but Doesn't Explain How

President Donald Trump at a White House business session Monday with the nation’s governors claimed that his daughter Ivanka had “created millions of jobs,” although did not provide any details. The president has frequently touted what he has said are the accomplishments of his eldest daughter, who he made a senior White House adviser when he assumed the Oval Office despite her having no prior political experience.
“My daughter, Ivanka, who is going to be speaking later, is—she has been so much involved. So incredibly involved,” Trump said at the White House before boarding Air Force One for a second summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, this time in Hanoi, Vietnam. “Where is Ivanka? Ivanka, keep going. My daughter has created millions of jobs. I don't know if anyone knows that, but she's created millions of jobs.”
While the president did not explain exactly how he believed his daughter had been directly responsible for millions of jobs, he went onto discuss initiatives that Ivanka Trump has heavily pushed.
“Last year, my administration created the Council for American Worker and launched the Pledge of America’s Workers, where we've gained commitments from private sector leaders to hire and train more than 6.5 million Americans,” President Trump said. “Think of it: 6.5 million. And these are jobs that, for the most part, would not have happened.”
