Read through it twice kindof

You know - my Aunt and Uncle - when he was recruited by Xerox in the mid 1960's . . . Had to look at (to purchase) and move in at night. Rochester NY . . . It was everywhere.

I can't c/p on my iPad from the NPR site - but there is a piece in there about how whites we're "allowed" to purchase the tract home at around 9K . . . They increased in value to 400/500 K. That became - becomes - handed down wealth, sending kids to college, etc etc

I know too many black folks who didn't grow up in a 'house' - and they've worked very hard to acquire the wealth they do have. It's why I get batty about the 'redistribute the wealth' trope.

From whom and to whom?

Can a black family with a home, a vacation home, maybe a few hundred k in their retirement who are first generation home owners/wealth builders be excused fom that?

Because it seems pretty shitty to take something from people who thumbed their noses at America and beat this country at their own game.

Not Supporting a Candidate When You are Black

POSTED IN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN GROUP - IF YOUR FIRST POST BACK HERE IS GOING TO BE IN RESPONSE TO THIS THREAD PLEASE STOP BEFORE YOU START - THANKS.

I think - personally - Does not mean you have Stockholm Syndrome.

Since another thread back here was alerted on and hidden (just look at the group for that one - it's high up on the page) -

I thought I would bring it up.

Black DU'ers - do you feel you have Stockholm Syndrome JUST because you aren't hot? In need of ice water and aloe? In need of an emergency room? Having a fever?

Do you think you are a 'simpleton'?

Why is it when you are smart, faster, more efficient, more resilient and able to withstand societal pressures better -

That some folks seem to think it's the other way around? That we are simple feeble minded fools cowering in a corner with a figurative gun to our heads?

Can we discuss?

Because I read something really really disturbing this morning and it needs to be discussed.

Screen play idea -Ohio

Thanks for this!

This is a great post

And all of those folks that only show up back here when it's to defend The Bernie show what their intent is by not responding or rec'ing it.

I'll remember that.

Lather, rinse, repeat:
Infants of African American women in 2008 had the largest death rate, which was more than twice the rate among infants of white women.

John Lewis - 2014 Post Comparing Cornel to POTUS doesn't make sense to me

I wrote this Tuesday, August 26, 2014 http://www.democraticunderground.com/11878298.

My comments still stand. This was long before anyone declared they were running for the office of POTUS.

If Corny  is so right - why hasn't he ever run for office. He lived in Princeton. They haven't  elected a Republican Mayor in oh since . . .

He couldn't even run for Mayor of Princeton NJ?

Really?

I'd like to quote the wise and sage Stevie Wonder:

We would not care to wake up to the nightmare
That's becoming real life
But when mislead who knows a person's mind
Can turn as cold as ice
Why do you keep on making us hear your song
Tellin' us how you are changing right from wrong
'Cause if you really want to hear our views
"You haven't done nothin'
"

Understand - blacks aren't a monolith. Understand, some blacks such as myself think talk is cheap.  Unless you have the guts to run yourself - go to hell Corny. You have spoken, wrote, hell - even acted! What legislation did you see over the finsh line?

There are attempts to compare a writer/college professor/actor with POTUS. The better question to pose to me - because West had an 8 year head start in life over Obama - he had every opportunity to get off of his soapbox and get something passed into law somewhere -

Compare Contrast John Lewis' career as an activist and legislator to Cornel West's pretty words.

John Lewis didn't just 'march' or write books and lecture:

And he -

And he also -

Now he says stuff like this -

And wow - he wants us to get on up and get in trouble!

And because of this -

And yeah - this -

I've got a feeling about who Lewis will be endorsing . . .

18. Why in the world was a physical address ever given out?

I have no sympathy. No one should be giving out addresses on this forum. This drama is not at all what I want to read about or be subjected

to.

20. she's giving out way too much information if she was tracked in that way

I can have sympathy for her error there but I think she is fanning the flames...this stalker is getting way too much attention

I do wish her the best and a safe future

23. so you think it's wise to give enough information out that posters

On an online forum can track an address? I hope it's a po box and not a physical address. And you think it's also ok to share mail from a non trusted source with the same forum possibly feeding into this unknown and non trusted source's ego....for what purpose? How does any of this help bravenak or make him or her safer?

I point these things out and you say I am blaming the victim?

Going back to ignoring these threads

What a great idea! (Maltese for journal)

Adding to journal. We are starting to look for a Maltese puppy from local in home breeders. Great for when he/she reaches adulthood. I see it is for dogs 8 pounds and heavier - but great idea!

She's a hypocrite then

This tells me who she REALLY is and what she REALLY believes . . .

That it's just a piece of paper.

True story - my dad was moved to Fort Knox just a few months after the Loving vs VA case. My mom of course went with him.

It was NOT just a piece of paper to them (a till death do they part marriage) and it isn't for the couples trying to tie the knot that are the same sex in Kentucky.

I hope she fets thrown in jail for breaking the law. And if there aren't laws that get one thrown in jail for denying others their Civil Liberties or Rights - maybe there needs to be.

Maybe that's the next big challenge? Making those who deny criminally responsible for their bigotry?

I'm kicking it!

Thanks for this. Put it in your journal -I'm putting it in mine!

The NRA is Smearing Martin O'Malley as a 'friend to criminals'

The NRA - as usual - a bunch of snakes slithering around on their bellies showing Americans every single day that they are a bunch of good for nothings.
http://mediamatters.org/blog/2015/08/21/nra-smears-martin-omalley-as-a-friend-to-crimin/205084

The NRA's feature attacks O'Malley on two fronts, claiming that he poses a threat to Second Amendment rights and accusing him of taking the side of criminals in Maryland -- even though courts have sided with O'Malley on gun laws and violent crime fell significantly during his tenure as governor.

Angered by O'Malley's strong support for a package of gun safety laws enacted in Maryland in 2013 following the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, the NRA claims O'Malley "imposed the most draconian new gun bans anywhere in the country" before offering attacks from the top two members of NRA leadership.

NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre is quoted in the article claiming O'Malley "has presided over some of the most spectacular, bloody and brutal failures of 'gun control' in our nation's history," while NRA top lobbyist Chris Cox suggests O'Malley becoming president could trigger "a fight for the survival of Second Amendment freedom as we know it."

The NRA also objects to O'Malley's response to the massacre of nine parishioners in a historically African-American Charleston, South Carolina, church in June, sneering that the former Maryland governor acted "decidedly un-presidential" when he wrote an email to supporters declaring he was "pissed" about inaction on gun violence while calling for bans on assault weapons and stronger background checks on gun sales.

I don't know about any of the rest of you who detest the NRA and everything they stand for but . . .

Am I the only person saying to myself . . .

I can't find that one fuck I'm supposed to give about what those pieces of shit at the NRA think is Presidential or not.
