By Associated Press, Thursday, June 28, 8:13 PM

NEW YORK — Being the kind of grandfather that he is, New York Yankees legend Don Larsen is taking one for the team.

The former pitcher announced Thursday that he’s paying for his grandchildren’s college education by auctioning off his most prized possession — the baseball uniform he wore when he pitched the only perfect game in World Series history.

Steiner Sports Memorabilia will conduct the auction beginning Oct. 8, the 56th anniversary of Larsen’s masterful pitching performance against the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1956 World Series. Baseball enthusiasts worldwide will have the opportunity to place bids online or via phone for 56 days afterward.

The off-white uniform with faded Yankee pinstripes is in excellent condition, Larsen said.

When asked how much he’d like to get for the uniform — which includes both the jersey and pants — Larsen, 82, didn’t miss a beat.

“A million,” he said. “Why go cheap?”

What a GREAT Grandfather! Damn shame he has to auction his uniform, though...

The F-4 Phantom disappeared over the Mediterranean, south-west of Hatay province, near the Syrian coast.

Turkey had earlier said it believed that one of its F-4 fighter jets had been shot down by Syrian forces.

A search for the two crew members is under way involving Turkish and Syrian coast guard ships.

School bus monitor bullied by students -disturbing video

http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20120620/NEWS01/306200023/Greece-bus-monitor-bullying-video?odyssey=tab%7Ctopnews%7Ctext%7CLocal%20News

An online fundraising effort to assist a Greece bus monitor verbally abused by students raised more than $70,000 in its first day.

The effort was set in motion by a video of 10 minutes of profane taunting endured on Monday by bus monitor Karen Klein.

Klein didn’t report the behavior and said she figured she had just ended the year on a bad note.

But one of the kids on the Greece Athena Middle School bus captured the incident on a cellphone camera. The video got pulled off of Facebook late Tuesday and was posted to YouTube. By early Wednesday, it had gone viral across the world.

In the video, Klein does her best to ignore the harassment.

“I was trying to just ignore them, hoping they would go away and it doesn’t work,” Klein said. “Trust me, they didn’t go away.”

The vile chorus included profanity, taunts, insults, jeers, physical ridicule and outright threats to Klein’s person and home.

Jury rejects claims against Costner in Baldwin lawsuit

Source: WWLTV.com

NEW ORLEANS -- A jury settled a business feud between Hollywood actors Kevin Costner and Stephen Baldwin in a multimillion dollar lawsuit over oil-separating devices sold to BP to clean the Gulf of Mexico after the 2010 oil spill.

The jury rejected all claims from Stephen Baldwin against actor Kevin Costner over their multimillion dollar business dispute.

Stephen Baldwin sued Costner, claiming Costner duped Baldwin and his business partner out of millions of dollars in that was awarded in a contract by BP to use a centrifuge to clean up the Gulf oil spill.

Baldwin alleged that Costner and Costner’s business partners kept him in the dark about a looming $52 million sale of the devices to BP, buying him out for $1.4 million on the eve of clinching the BP deal.

'Green Acres' actor Frank Cady dies at 96

Source: LA Times

By Claire Noland

June 10, 2012, 1:22 p.m.
Frank Cady, 96, a character actor who played Hooterville general-store proprietor Sam Drucker on the TV sitcoms “Green Acres” and “Petticoat Junction,” died Friday at his home in Wilsonville, Ore., said his daughter, Catherine Turk. No specific cause was given.

Like Mr. Haney, Eb Dawson, Hank Kimball and Arnold the Pig, Cady’s Sam Drucker was a supporting cast member on “Green Acres” to lawyer Oliver Wendell Douglas and his socialite wife, Lisa, played by Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor, who had ditched the high life in New York City for the charms of a farm in Hooterville.

Cady played Drucker for the entire run of “Green Acres” on CBS, from 1965 to 1971, when it was canceled. The show continued to air for years in syndication. He also portrayed Drucker on “Petticoat Junction” and “The Beverly Hillbillies,” programs that shared some secondary characters. He reprised the role for the 1990 TV movie “Return to Green Acres.”
