Exclusive: here's the tentative deal Trump and Kim Jong Un may strike in Vietnam

I looked but I didn't see this posted.

Here’s the outline of the tentative deal as described to me:

Both countries will sign a peace declaration to symbolically end the Korean War. That conflict ended in an armistice (basically a truce), not an actual peace treaty, in 1953, which means the war is technically still ongoing. The agreement would effectively, although not officially, end hostilities between the two countries and dramatically improve their relations.

North Korea will agree to return more remains of US troops who died during the Korean War, although it’s unclear how many of the thousands will come home and when. Last year, following the Trump-Kim summit in Singapore, North Korea returned the remains of 55 American service members.

The US and North Korea will establish liaison offices — which are quasi-embassies with minimal authorities — in each other’s nations. That will be the first concrete step toward normalizing diplomatic ties between the two longtime enemies.

North Korea will agree to stop producing materials for nuclear bombs at its Yongbyon facility. In exchange, the US will push to lift some UN sanctions on Pyongyang so it can pursue joint economic projects with South Korea. It’s also possible the deal will include some other nuclear facilities, one source said.

Your preferred weather app? Website?

I’ve always used The Weather Channel almost by default. Their new app doesn’t do much for me.

Any suggestions?

You need to see this. Trump doesn't know what an MOU is.

I'm truly stunned by this. Stunned. I found this video for this forum. I have another thread in GD.

A truly stunning display of ignorance, Trump doesn't know what an MOU is

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is a standard binding contract used by government entities either between government entities or, more commonly, with private sector vendors. It IS a binding contract.

This was one of the most stunning things I've ever seen. To compare it as a joke with someone showing their ass in a meeting is a gross mistake. Lighthizer tried to bail him out but Trump HAS to fully display his ignorance to the point that Lighthizer tries to change legal terms and the Chinese Vice Premier is laughing at Trump IN the Oval Office.

https://twitter.com/economics/status/1099357290791022593

Trump told reporters they would “be very short term. I don’t like MOUs because they don’t mean anything. To me, they don’t mean anything.”

“An MOU is a binding agreement between two people,” Lighthizer responded.

Turning to members of the news media assembled in the Oval Office, he continued, “It’s detailed. It covers everything in great detail. It’s a legal term. It’s a contract.”

“By the way I disagree,” Trump fired back. “We’re doing a memorandum of understanding that will be put into a final contract, I assume. But to me, the final contract is really the thing Bob, and I think you mean that too, is really the thing that means something. A memorandum of understanding is exactly that, it’s a memorandum of what our understanding is.”

“The real question is, Bob … how long will it take to put that into a final binding contract?”

Lighthizer quickly adopted a new term after the pushback from the president.

“From now on, we’re not using the word ‘memorandum of understanding' anymore,” Lighthizer said. “We’re going to use the term ‘trade agreement’ … We’re never going to use MOU again.”

Chinese Vice Premier Liu He laughed as the exchange carried on.

"Three Identical Strangers" CNN documentary. Amazing. Well worth a watch.

I'd been meaning to watch this and finally did over the weekend.

Have you seen "Three Identical Strangers" about the triplets separated at birth?
Without giving away spoilers it takes two really weird turns. One I saw coming but not the other one. If you want a general overview I can do a SPOILERS post.

Really well done even though there are no answers at the end. Really really weird goings on.

Eight Ole Miss players kneel during anthem in response to Confederacy rally

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/26063456/eight-ole-miss-players-kneel-anthem-response-confederacy-rally

Eight players from the Ole Miss men's basketball team knelt during the national anthem before Saturday's home game against Georgia in response to a Confederacy rally near the arena.

Minutes before the game, both teams formed lines for the anthem. As "The Star-Spangled Banner" began, six Rebels players -- who appeared to be KJ Buffen, D.C. Davis, Brian Halums, Luis Rodriguez, Devontae Shuler and Bruce Stevens -- knelt one by one. Two more players -- appearing to be Breein Tyree and Franco Miller Jr. -- took a knee on the song's final line.

The game was being played while two pro-Confederacy groups organized a march onto the campus in Oxford, Mississippi.

Various student groups held counterprotests on campus on Thursday and Friday. Saturday's march, led by pro-Confederate groups Confederate 901 and the Hiwaymen, also drew counterprotesters. The march began at the Confederate monument on the city square and ended at another Confederate monument in the heart of the Ole Miss campus.

Ole Miss coach Kermit Davis said he wasn't aware beforehand that players were going to kneel.

"This was all about the hate groups that came to our community to try to spread racism and bigotry," Davis said. "It's created a lot of tension for our campus. Our players made an emotional decision to show these people they're not welcome on our campus, and we respect our players' freedom and ability to choose that.''

For Black History Month, this Loudoun County elementary school played a runaway slave 'game' in gym class

Third-, fourth- and fifth-graders at Madison’s Trust Elementary School in Ashburn were instructed during their physical education period earlier this month to play a “game” that involved students working in groups, pretending to be runaway slaves and advancing through an obstacle course meant to represent the Underground Railroad.

In at least one instance, an African-American child in the class was designated as a slave for the activity, according to Loudoun NAACP Chapter President Michelle Thomas, who said she's heard several complaints from parents regarding the activity.

Thomas has been involved in those efforts as co-founder of the Loudoun Freedom Center and now the president of the local NAACP. In the past year, she worked to update the curriculum on African-American history at the fourth, fifth, seventh, 10th and 11th grade levels, taking out insensitive activities and preventing miseducation of African-American history.

Thomas said every year around this time the Loudoun NAACP receives complaints from parents about activities such as a sixth-grade role play exercise where students choose between being a slave, sharecropper or landowner.
