Katrina - The ironic legacy of Shep Smith (yes another thread on that)

I'll never forget this one. I can't find the actual footage of this.

So it was basically the morning after Katrina blew through New Orleans. Shep Smith and someone from NBC we're about the only TV reporters who stuck around. As Smith was reporting you could see TV crews packing up if memory serves. He's standing in the middle of the street and says "as we stand here water is just rolling in towards us" it wasn't much but you could see water trickling in around him. Over the next few days it got worse and worse AND we saw the horrific conditions in the Superdome and the area.

He and the guy from NBC - can't find who it was - kept reporting on what was going on as everyone else wanted to move on to the next story. As Fox News tried to move on Smith kept at it. Fox wanted desperately to not show the failings of the W administration (and they quickly move to blaming the recently Republican black Mayor) but on and on it went.

W&Dick will forever bee stained by that mess and Shepard Smith was a big part of that.

Here is some footage with Geraldo rushing in to get some airtime.

Temperatures in Denver dropped 64 degrees in less than 24 hours, setting a record

I'll admit I didn't look for other threads on this

https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/10/us/denver-temperature-record-trnd/index.html

(CNN)Temperatures in Colorado plunged 64 degrees on Thursday, the largest temperature drop the state has ever seen in October.

It's also the 15th largest temperature drop over a two day period in Denver's history, according to the National Weather Service.
At the Denver airport alone, the temperature dropped 55 degrees. CNN meteorologist Taylor Ward said at 2 p.m. on Wednesday it was 79 degrees and on Thursday at 2 p.m. the temperature read 24 degrees.
The cold front moved in on Wednesday night bringing extremely gusty winds, snow, and the first freeze of the season.

Padres pitcher Jacob Nix arrested (tased kicked in face)after entering home through doggie door

PHOENIX -- Police arrested San Diego Padres minor league pitcher Jacob Nix after he was accused of breaking into a suburban Phoenix home through a doggie door and was shot with a Taser by the homeowner.

Nix, who is facing two counts of criminal trespassing, was released this week from the Maricopa County jail on $100 bond.

Charging documents indicate the 23-year-old Nix, who is playing for the Peoria Javelinas of the Arizona Fall League, was under the influence of either alcohol or drugs during Sunday's incident.

Police say Nix tried to crawl through the doggie door of a Peoria home shortly before 4 a.m. The homeowner discovered Nix and kicked him in the face.

According to the complaint, Thomas Cosgrove, a minor league pitcher for the Padres, was there and pulled Nix out of the door. The homeowner fired his Taser, hitting Nix in the back.

Russia’s having a pretty good October, thanks in no small part to Donald Trump

Last week, Zelensky announced his support for the Steinmeier formula, a compromise proposal developed by German politician Frank-Walter Steinmeier in which the separatist provinces in eastern Ukraine could be recognized as self-governing after local elections. While Zelensky insisted that the elections would occur only after Russia withdrew from the area, Ukrainians are concerned that the agreement is a concession that will strengthen Russia’s grip in the region.

“The Steinmeier formula means Putin’s formula,” former Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko said in an interview.

“A precipitous withdrawal of U.S. forces from Syria would only benefit Russia, Iran, and the Assad regime. And it would increase the risk that ISIS and other terrorist groups regroup,” the statement from McConnell’s office read. “I urge the President to exercise American leadership to keep together our multinational coalition to defeat ISIS and prevent significant conflict between our NATO ally Turkey and our local Syrian counterterrorism partners.”

The Guardian, a British newspaper, seized upon that anecdote under the headline, “Trump told Theresa May he doubted Russia was behind Skripal poisoning” — a reference to the former spy, Sergei Skripal.

Winless Redskins fire coach Jay Gruden

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/27790170/winless-redskins-fire-coach-jay-gruden

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Redskins fired coach Jay Gruden on Monday in the midst of yet another disappointing season.

Gruden entered the season on the hot seat, and after Sunday's 33-7 loss to the New England Patriots dropped the Redskins to 0-5, it became clear he would not continue as the team's coach beyond this year. Team owner Daniel Snyder and team president Bruce Allen met with Gruden early Monday morning at Redskins Park to deliver the news.

Redskins assistant head coach/offensive line coach Bill Callahan will be the interim head coach, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

How is an acorn blue? Not a joke. Found a blue acorn outside.

Because you generally don't find them inside.
