Mitch McConnell understands when he has to give up a little to keep control of the whole.

His supporters trust him to not give away the store.

That appears to be his strategy with raising the age for purchase of military assault weapons.

With the passions high and unpredictable voters on the issue, Mitch knows when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em. He is willing to give an inch under the present circumstances.

When, in fact, they should be surrendering much more. The demands should be much stronger on the Republicans. Otherwise, make it a campaign issue at the top of the agenda.

These types of weapons should never be seen in public, in my opinion.

Will Justice Be Done?

First of all, this is not a criticism of Merrick Garland.

This is about who is left to save our democracy?

Our Founders created three branches of government, all with the balance of power. In my opinion, two of the branches, the Executive and the Legislative, have been corrupted by power and money and are on life support. They are barely hanging on.

In their wisdom, they did not put the Department of Justice, or the Attorney General, under the Judicial Branch, although they work the process of justice through the Judicial Branch.

Again, in my opinion, we have reached a point where our system can only be saved by our Justice System and the Judicial Branch. The weight of responsibility has been laid on the shoulders of our Department of Justice.

They have been put into a predicament where there can be no quick or spontaneous decisions, as much as many have been demanding it. Merrick Garland is a cautious and wise man but the time is near, when the nation calls for courage and decisiveness. Corrupt and criminal politicians must be held to account.

We cannot sugarcoat the attack upon our Capitol by a mob of hoodlums, along with a brain-washed cult of the former president. There is no way to whitewash it or to cover it up. It must be confronted.

To neglect the rule of law at this time would only quicken the demise of our democracy. The job must be methodical and just, but it must be done.

It is no surprise.

That Republicans are boycotting the January 6th hearings. Just as it is no surprise that FOX News is boycotting it.

Because they participated in the attempted coup of our government.

Naturally, they would want to minimize it. They would want to portray it as something much less malevolent than it actually is.

They colluded. They conspired. They communicated. They lied to America and to themselves.

So it is no surprise that they want to hide the information and to forget it ever happened. But, they want no political consequences.

Their "counter-arguments" are meant to confuse and to cover-up the truth.

None of their actions should be a surprise.

Patriots do not hide from the truth.

They do not fear information that is contrary to their present thinking.

Patriots that love their country want to know if their country is threatened.

Teddy Roosevelt is quoted as saying:

“Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the president or any other public official, save exactly to the degree in which he himself stands by the country. It is patriotic to support him insofar as he efficiently serves the country. It is unpatriotic not to oppose him to the exact extent that by inefficiency or otherwise he fails in his duty to stand by the country. In either event, it is unpatriotic not to tell the truth, whether about the president or anyone else.”

We fought the British, the Germans, and the Japanese...

...all in the name of democracy. Young men and women from every walk of life were willing to put their lives on the line for our "democracy".

Once again our democracy is threatened. By enemies, both foreign and domestic. Our democracy is under attack from fascists.

Yet, we question whether or not the American people will fight to defend it this time? Will they even watch the hearings to educate themselves about what happened when our Capitol was attacked? Some don't even seem to care.

Can our democracy survive under such conditions?

We must find a way to stop playing defense and go on the offensive or we may no longer have a democracy.

*BREAKING NEWS* -- The Election Was Not Stolen

Does it need to be repeated? It was a lie.

America needs to come to grips with the facts of the last election. The lies are corrosive. They are not good for our country.

It is unpatriotic to say that the last election was stolen. It divides the country. People that care about this country care about the truth.

It is sad and unfortunate that there are still people that believe the last election was stolen.

They were propagated to believe it. There was no evidence to suggest that the election was stolen. There was a huge turnout for both sides during the pandemic. There was very little evidence of fraud in the election.

Yet, some people felt the need to lie about it and to divide our country along political lines. It has hurt our country immensely.

How many times does it have to be said? The election was not stolen.

What Trump was doing in that 187 minutes?

If we recall, he was asked by a reporter if he had been concerned about his VP's security while the rioters were over-taking the Capitol? He said he was told that he was safe and there was no problem. He wasn't worried about that.

Who would have told him about Pence if he was not on the phone with someone? Who would that have been?

Also, he was watching television a lot. One witness had stated that he would rewind and watch the good parts over. He was thoroughly enjoying it.

In my opinion, they will discover that Trump was on the phone with the Secret Service to monitor the location of Pence? He wanted him out of the building and out of the area. How many times would he have called the Secret Service?

It has already been reported that he had a phone call with Kevin McCarthy. It was the moment that he told McCarthy that maybe the rioters cared more about the country than he did. Also, it was reported that he was attempting to call newly-elected Senator Tuberville and accidentally called Utah Senator Mike Lee.

I think we will discover that he was on the phone several times during the missing 187 minutes? I suspect we may find that out during these hearings.
