Trump is blackmailing each and every Republican Senator.

He has sent his special envoy, Mitch McConnell, to inform them of the ultimatum. He wants every Repub to vote to protect him from witnesses, otherwise he will see them defeated in the next election.

It became apparent with the many 53-47 votes the other night. They proved they have no backbone or courage to stand up for the truth or their country. Then, they pretend they are offended because Nadler accused them of a cover-up.

So far, not one of them has proven himself or herself worthy of re-election. They are not deserving of the office they hold.

They are prohibited from voting for witnesses or documents. They are fearful of the truth. They are engaged in a cover-up, just as Rep. Nadler said.

They cannot defend their votes. They are cowards.

A part of Schiff's timeline that I found very helpful:

It was the part about the whistleblower. How he went to the ICIG (Intelligence Community Inspector General) and the ICIG deemed that it was a credible account and said it was "urgent".

He then sent the complaint to the acting DNI, who had seven days to send it to the House Intelligence Committee. He never sent it to the House Committee.

Instead, he sent it to the DOJ for their perusal. They did not think it serious enough to bother with.

When they did not send it to the House Intel in the required time limit, the ICIG informed the House Intel Committee about it.

The next day, Donald Trump released his "copy" of the phone conversation between he and Zelensky.

I think this part of the timeline is important for those folks who might think the investigation of Donald Trump was entirely the creation of the Democrats, his political enemies.

"It's all about corruption".

We can expect the lawyers for Trump to make this argument.

The President has the authority to investigate "corruption" wherever it occurs.

They will argue that was what the President was doing in Ukraine.

And they would be correct.

It is all about corruption.

Their corruption.

A panic seems to have set in over witnesses.

Trump wants this trial over with immediately. Mitch must feel the pressure?

It seems like something big is about to happen, perhaps with John Bolton?

Trump and his flunkies are making very loud noises about Hunter Biden testifying. Do they really want him to testify or is it just a big bluff? What they really want is no witnesses. They don't want Bolton and they don't want Mulvaney. Although Trump feels Mulvaney will lie and cover up for him. He is not so sure about Bolton?

Maybe Bolton has agreed to do a cable television interview? And the Trump White House has heard about it? That would explain the panic in their comments and actions.

Who are Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz working for? Aren't they supposed to be representing the people that put them in the Senate? Or are they working for Donald Trump?

There's a sense of unease in the White House. They are fearful that some Senators may break ranks and vote for witnesses? The White House doesn't want witnesses, not even Hunter Biden.

Win or lose, Trump will still control the Republican Party.

He's not going to leave the Party.

Republicans that believe he will leave if he is defeated, or after his second term, are mistaken.

He has built a cult following and he has no intention of leaving it. Nor will they desert him. They will stick with him even if he is no longer in the White House.

As long as Donald Trump remains alive, he will control the present Republican Party.

It doesn't matter if he is in office or out.

Republicans must choose to get rid of a disease...

...or choose to let it spread into an epidemic?

They have the antidote to make our country healthy again. But, if they use the antidote, they may lose their political power?

They understand the threat of the disease. But, they don't think they will ever suffer from the disease. Only their enemies will get sick.

If they do not use their antidote, the entire country will become very sick. It could be fatal for our democracy.

Democrats have an impossible job ahead of them.

Our country is under threat from within and half the country doesn't want to hear about it. They are under the spell of a cult of personality. Nothing short of waterboarding can get their attention.

How do the Democrats break the spell? What can they say or do to shake the Republicans out of their zombie state?

Is the election of 2020 the only option that is left?

Who is the biggest threat to our national security? Trump or Republican Senate?

Trump has proven he cares very little about our national security, even as he pretends otherwise.

The Republicans, as if in some deep psychosis, look the other way as our nation and our Constitution is threatened. They are not serious. They are indifferent. They simply do not care.

They rationalize everything as some sort of political conspiracy. It couldn't be anything else. How dangerous is the mindset of Republican Senators?

What warrants removal from office?

If colluding with a foreign government to interfere in our elections for personal gain, and withholding military aid to force them to act on your behalf, and then hide it from an investigation, is not enough, then what would a president have to do to be removed from office?

January 22, 2020

Were you surprised that not even one Republican voted for documents or witnesses?

Every vote ended with the same total, 53 to 47.

It does appear that they had already given their word that they would not vote for any witnesses or documents until all the arguments were closed. Even Mitt Romney said he would not vote for John Bolton until the process that McConnell created had run its course.

Either Trump or McConnell had talked with all these Senators before the trial started, and they naively agreed to not vote for anything until the end. All the votes were preordained. That was fairly obvious after the very first vote for documents.

Republicans were united. They were not listening to facts or evidence. They were going to timidly follow their corrupt leaders wherever they wanted to go.
