Bill Maher Believes People Should 'Want' to Get Coronavirus

I'm going to put Bill Maher on pause for a while. HBO should be ashamed of themselves for letting this quack on the air.

Bill Maher welcomed Dr. David Katz, a doctor and ex-instructor at the Yale School of Medicine, onto his show Real Time. Dr. Katz, who consistently flaunts his Yale ties despite the fact that they were severed in 2016, has become something of a right-wing darling after penning a controversial New York Times op-ed on March 20 titled “Is Our Fight Against Coronavirus Worse Than the Disease?” In it, Katz argues against the self-isolation policies put in place by most of the U.S., instead saying the country should isolate the elderly and infirm, which would thus “allow most of society to return to life as usual and perhaps prevent vast segments of the economy from collapsing.... a convincing refutation of Katz’s ill-advised piece was published in The New York Times from those currently at the Yale School of Public Health ...

Comprehensive data collection and analysis are the ways forward.

We need to define who truly is high/low risk. Yes, we have a general idea, the elderly and/or people with underlying conditions, but there are reports of people who don't fit into those categories who are dying.

The only way to define the high/low risk pool is through data collection. We need to know their age, gender, height, weight, blood type, medical history, geographical location, etc. of the deceased. We also need comprehensive testing and tracking on a regular basis.

I don't blame Trump. I blame the Republican party that continues to enable him.

At any other normal period in our history, leaders of the Republican party would be headed towards the White House and gently ask Trump to resign the office. That's what a national political party interested in being a partner in governing and concerned about the well being of this nation would do.

Instead we have a political party who thinks that its sole purpose is to protect and expand the wealth of the 1% at any cost including having a complete bufoon as president. They have no regard for the health and safety of the American people. In fact, they're willing to let Americans die in service to maintaining the wealth of the 1%.

As a party, the Democrats need to seize and hold power unilaterally until the Republicans come to their senses. We simply cannot allow them access to power any where in this nation.

If you mix the disinfectant into a big drum of Kool Aid. Scoop yourself out a cup and drink it...

then you will never have to worry about covid-19 ever again. In fact, you won't have to worry about anything else ever again.

What could Trump have done to mitigate the damage from covid-19? Look at what Canada did.

Canada (pop. 37.59 million) has about 42,000 cases and 2,141 deaths. The excerpt below is from an article in March.

Canada spent January and February putting together testing and monitoring infrastructure—efforts that look a lot like the model laid out at the Johns Hopkins table. By catching cases early, and investigating their origins, Canada has blunted the impact of the virus thus far.

In Canada, provincial and federal health authorities have managed to test roughly 15,000 patients across the country. Nationally, Canada has seen just 157 confirmed cases—the majority of which were imported from other countries. There have been very few known instances of human-to-human transmission inside Canada so far, in part because those who caught the virus have either been placed in quarantine or self-isolated quickly.

Canada has spent the past two decades preparing for this moment.

I won't trust any covid-19 vaccine that comes out while Trump is president.

Given how the public health officials compromise their professional integrity to appease his ego or be fired and given how he only wants sychophants around him, I won't be able to trust any covid-19 vaccine that comes out while this man is president.

Seems the only path forward is a combination of treatments that can keep you alive

Like with HIV/AIDs, there is no full cure but a combination of different medicine/treatments that will prevent you from dying from covid-19. You just live with the disease. There won't be a vaccine for a couple of years, if ever.

Once we have the treatments in place, we can re-open.
