Pennsylvania lawmakers, politicos react to former President Donald Trump's conviction
GOP says Biden admin weaponized the justice system, but some say verdict could hurt Trump's chances with Pa. independentsPittsburgh Post-Gazette link: https://www.post-gazette.com/news/election-2024/2024/05/30/donald-trump-guilty-trial-pennsylvania-reaction/stories/202405300130
WASHINGTON Pennsylvania lawmakers and political experts predictably divided along party lines following Thursdays felony conviction of former President Donald Trump, who is running neck-and-neck with President Joe Biden in the Keystone State.
After a New York jury on Thursday found Mr. Trump guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records tied to hush money payments made to an adult film star during the 2016 campaign, Pennsylvania Republicans quickly echoed Mr. Trumps long-running accusations of corruption against the Biden administration, which had nothing to do with the case.
Instead, the charges were brought by the elected district attorney for the New York City borough of Manhattan, Alvin Bragg, not the U.S. Justice Department. But that didnt stop U.S. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, R-Peters, the House deputy whip and a longtime Trump supporter, from blaming Mr. Biden.
Mr. Reschenthaler called the trial the worst abuse of power in American history on X. Joe Biden and Alvin Bragg weaponized our judicial system, turning our nation into a banana republic filled with kangaroo courts designed to target their political rivals. Pray for our nation and President Trump.

Thank you ACLU, this is how to argue the case. The state has no right to throw out undated or incorrectly dated ballots. This year there will be many more Repukes voting by mail for the first time in Pennsylvania. Does anyone think they will sit back and allow their ballots to be thrown out? I hardly think so.
New court challenge filed in Pennsylvania to prevent some mail-in ballots from getting thrown out
BY MARC LEVY Updated 9:52 PM EDT, May 28, 2024
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) A new lawsuit filed Tuesday by a constellation of left-leaning groups in Pennsylvania is trying to prevent thousands of mail-in ballots from being thrown out in Novembers election in a battleground state that is expected to play a critical role in selecting a new president.
The lawsuit, filed in a state court, is the latest of perhaps a half-dozen cases to challenge a provision in Pennsylvania law that voters must write the date when they sign their mail-in ballot envelope. Voters not understanding that provision has meant that tens of thousands of ballots lacked an accurate date since Pennsylvania dramatically expanded mail-in voting in a 2019 law.
The latest lawsuit says multiple courts have found that a voter-written date is meaningless in determining whether the ballot arrived on time or whether the voter is eligible. As a result, rejecting someones ballot either because it lacks a date or a correct date should violate the Pennsylvania Constitutions free and equal elections clause, the lawsuit said.
This lawsuit is the only one that is squarely addressing the constitutionality of disenfranchising voters under Pennsylvanias Constitution, said Marian Schneider, a lawyer in the case and senior policy counsel for voting rights for the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania.

As usual Tiedrich is only getting started on this classic rant. Blanche's goof and Chump's bad behavior for the entire month mean that Judge Merchan in is no mood to give them a break when it comes to sentencing. But we're not there yet, the jury is still deliberating, so we'll have to wait and see.
Also Tiedrich has some nice praise for Robert DeNiro's heroic speech to the crowd of New Yorkers outside the courthouse. I hope I can find the transcript for his entire speech from yesterday. Please click on the OP link to read the rest on "Everyone is entitled to my own opinion."
Today's Tiedrich rant: Trump lawyer Todd Blanche fucks up bigtime during closing statements
Link: https://www.jefftiedrich.com/p/trump-lawyer-todd-blanche-fucks-up
yesterday, during the defenses summation in the Big Trump Campaign Finance Fraud Fuckery trial, Trump lead lawyer Todd Blanche took his Italian-leather-clad foot and shoved it right into his big stupid mouth.
Screenshot:
holy shit, did Blanche just threaten the jury? did he actually tell the jurors to think twice before sending his mobster client to prison? it sure as fuck sounds like a threat. no wonder Judge Merchan was pissed.
Donny and his lawyers have done everything they could to annoy Merchan during the entire month-long trial. this is going to result in a twenty-megaton disaster for Trump should the jury return a guilty verdict. heres why: its up to Merchan whether he shows leniency towards Trump or throws the fucking book at him.
as ludicrous as it seems to type these words, Donny is technically a first-time offender for what is essentially a low-level white-collar crime.

Before the lawyers depart, Judge Merchan strongly tells Todd Blanche that he doesnt think it was an accident when Blanche told the jury that the jury should think twice before sending a man to prison.
Merchan to Blanche: Your statement was outrageous and highly inappropriate.
Merchans tone was tempered but you could tell he was angry with Blanche. Merchan noted that Blanches experience as a federal prosecutor suggests that this was no accident on his part.

Dark Web Identity Thief Claims He Orchestrated Scheme to Sell Graceland
Rolling Stone link: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/graceland-auction-sale-scam-dark-web-identity-thief-credit-1235029287/
A DARK WEB scammer has taken credit for trying to sell Elvis Presleys Graceland home, The New York Times reports.
The paper said it received two emails from a person who claimed to be the brains behind this scheme and other identity theft frauds. We figure out how to steal. Thats what we do, the scammer said, adding that he and his dark web network of worms often targeted elderly and unsuspecting people, often in California and Florida, using publicly available documents like birth certificates to procure crucial personal information.
Still, he acknowledged the Graceland grift had fallen short: I had fun figuring this one out and it didnt succeed very well.
The Times said it received the messages after reaching out to an email address listed in court documents for Naussany Investments & Private Lending LLC, the company that tried to sell Graceland at auction earlier this month. The writer said he was based in Nigeria, and his emails were written in Luganda. A translator who looked at the documents noted that the use of the Bantu language was sporadically clunky compared to the fluent English used in Naussanys court filings.

4. Hung jury
5. Directed verdict

I going with either #1 or #2.
It's not just guilty or not guilty. Here are all the possible outcomes of the Trump trial.
Politico link: https://www.politico.com/news/2024/05/27/trump-trial-possible-outcomes-00160042
NEW YORK The first prosecution of a former president is nearing the end. The 12 New Yorkers who will soon weigh the evidence in Donald Trumps Manhattan criminal trial could reach three different verdicts. All would require a unanimous decision.
If they cant agree, theres a fourth possible outcome: a hung jury. Plus, theres another result that, while extremely unlikely at this point, could end the case without the jurys input at all.
Closing arguments are scheduled for Tuesday. Then, the judge will instruct the jury on the relevant law, and the jurors will begin their secret deliberations which could last anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks.
Here are the 5 ways the Trump trial could conclude:
