Clayton County deputy fired after seen on video repeatedly striking Black man during traffic stop

The most horrific thing about this video. The little boy running over to his dad as he is being beaten
I fear for the mental health of these children. Just as Jacob Blake's children witnessed his attempted murder, this child subjected to see this brutality against his father. I just can't. These cops should be charged with child abuse. Why not? Women that are the victims of domestic violence are often charged when their children witness their abuse, and they are victims themselves.

Shocking Details Emerge on Indy Activist Who Faked Life as a Black Woman.

There have been a few stories out there about white women that fake being black. This one takes the cake.

The Black Community in Indianapolis has been left reeling — as shocking and disturbing details released in the last 24 hours have emerged regarding a disgraced activist exposed for posing as a Black Woman.

Satchuel Paigelyn Cole, aka “Jennifer Benton”, has spent the past several years as one of the most visible self proclaimed “Activists of Color” within Indianapolis. She has worked at and along aside the highest leadership positions in organizations such as Indy10 Black Lives Matter, Indy SURJ, and the now defunct Don’t Sleep — where she served as co-president of the organization alongside Dominic Dorsey.

Hill Harper is an asshole. - What a disappointment

He used to be one of my favorite actors. I bought letters to a young brother for my son when he was younger. I've always felt he was a grounded inspirational person. This just makes me ill.

Now, either he's a transphobic asshole or really tone deaf. Which is it?

This happened a few months by the way, just read about it today.

There's a lot going on in the world right now. There's a virus and disease that's currently causing a global pandemic that has been ongoing for the past few months. There's also another fatal ongoing epidemic of systemic, fatal racism against Black people. And that's just this week!

But, with all of those things happening, actor Hill Harper thought that now was the perfect time to avert his attention from those issues and instead misgender a child at a time when being quiet is still an option. My god.

For Zaya Wade's 13th birthday, her mother Gabrielle Union-Wade posted a celebratory post on Instagram.

"Happy Birthday baby!!!" she wrote. "I can't believe you are 13!! Zaya you are such an inspiration and motivation to get my butt up everyday and fight. When I'm weary, furstrated, full of rage, I see your face and your joy and you living your best life and I want that for all of us.

"I love you sooooo much kid!!" she continued. "Enjoy this day and everyday knowing you are loved, protected, respected, admired and celebrated."

The comments on the celebratory post were mostly positive. But one response in particular, from The Good Doctor, Homeland, and CSI: New York actor Hill Harper stood out.

"Happy Birthday young man!!" Harper wrote. Zaya has quite publicly began to use she/her pronouns with Gabrielle and Dwyane both referring to her as their daughter. "Read "Letters to a Young Brother"!!! Your mom wrote something in it!! You'll love it! Have a great day!!"

"Make him a suspect" -

The sad part in all this, is his brother Joe, tried really hard to get Daniel the help he so desperately needed that night. I've shied away from reading the details of this case. Just read that his brother had taken him to the hospital hours before seeking help, they released him, he continued to spiral downwards. The whole system failed Daniel. And then tried to smear him. I can't imagine the pain his brother is feeling. He thought he was doing the right thing, he took him to the hospital, they did not admit him. He got worse, he called 911. He died. Made even worse by this revelation that they wanted to make him look like a suspect instead of a victim.

The ease at which this is said, leads me to believe that its something that is done routinely.

A Rochester police officer wrote "make him a suspect" on an incident report about the department's fatal encounter with Daniel Prude, and it was just one of many ways officials tried to keep information on what happened from going public, according to emails and documents released as part of the city's internal investigation into what happened.

The report seen by Insider includes 325 pages of documents and emails in which officers discussed a concern of "blow back" in the community over Prude's death, as well as multiple attempts to control the narrative.

In one document, first flagged by The New York Times, a police officer circled Prude's name, and wrote the words: "Make him a suspect."

The comment was written after another officer had listed Prude as an "individual" in a document's "victim type." According to The Times, police believed Prude had broken a window at a store the night of the fatal encounter.

In other documents released as part of the investigation, city officials tried withholding body camera footage of the incident, attempted to influence Prude's autopsy, and failed to respond to requests made by the attorney representing Prude's family in a timely manner.

Andrew Gillum recalls Kamala Harris' advice to him during 'dark' time in rousing post

In a rousing post on Instagram, Andrew Gillum praised newly picked Democratic vice-presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, revealing the California senator was there for him during his “darkest periods” when other politician friends had “disappeared.”

“When I was going through one of my darkest periods over the past months, there were some people whose outreaches stood out to me. While many of my political “friends” did exactly what politicians do – disappear,” Gillum wrote in a post on Thursday.

“There were a few people who stood out to me for their compassion and friendship,” said the former candidate for Florida governor. “I shared in my first public comments that one piece of advice that impacted me deeply, was someone telling me to ‘remember to be kind to yourself.’ Well, that advice came from Kamala Harris.”

It will get colder, it will go away in the spring, science doesn't know, but trump knows

When you have fires forming a tornado, this asshole, again being dismissive. Just as he did with the virus. While people are running for their lives from fires, whole towns burning. This never opened a book, spend all day watching Fox news ignorant POS. I just can't. I just can't.

Update on my son, Trump's dereliction of duty, long haulers and more of my thoughts

Its been a little over a month since my son had his first admission to the hospital for Covid. I posted again about his re-hospitalization. He spent 10 days in the hospital that time on oxygen the second time around before he was discharged.

Last week was the first time his O2 sat was back to a normal level since he was discharged. When I saw 96%. Woohoo! Every day I worried about it. When he was first discharged, it was still reading 90-91%. He still has a cough.

Its important to remind ourselves there is no cure for this disease, our healthcare professionals are doing a tremendous job of battling this illness and trying to keep people from dying. The same treatment that may help one patient, may not help another.
My son was given corticosteroids. IV each time he was admitted, and tablets when he was discharged. He was also treated with Levaquin- an antibiotic- IV and tablets when he discharged. Why an antibiotic? Its a virus. Levaquin is usually used for serious respiratory illnesses - its being used as an adjunct experimental treatment for Covid pneumonia, also from what I've read, some people with Covid, go on to develop a bacterial infection as well. I am no expert on these matters.

Surely, my son's age, no pre-existing conditions, the treatment regimen, oxygen, steroids, levaquin - and other things they did, - he was also getting heparin- to prevent blood clots, breathing treatments allowed him to recover. He still has a cough. Still has days where he says he feels extremely exhausted.

Now for the aftermath. Whether its going through this illness or the treatment itself, perhaps both, my son's mental health has taken a turn for the worse.

I am sure the treatment itself is a contributing factor. Steroids can affect your mental health, and he was getting a lot of it over the course of being treated for this for almost 3 weeks. Levaquin may also cause psychiatric side effects. The FDA put a black box warning on meds in this class in 2015. My son does have bipolar d/o. Prior to getting ill. He was stable. I do believe the massive doses of steroids and Levaquin destabilized him.
There are some studies that suggest that Covid itself may cause neuropsychiatric illnesses. The studies I have seen so far are inconclusive. The researchers are not sure if it was Covid that cause the illness, or the treatments.
[link:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7236749/|

I have not seen him like this since the first time he was diagnosed with Bipolar d/o 5 years ago. His mood swings have been off the charts.
When he went for his follow up visit, I asked the PCP if it was OK for him to discontinue taking the steroids as I was getting really worried about his mental state. She discontinued it. He had a follow up chest x-ray a few days ago, follow up appt this week for the results. Hoping that the pneumonia is fully cleared. He cannot stand another round of steroids or treatment with Levaquin.

This excerpt below is from the FDA - on the risks of antibiotics like Levaquin.

Across the fluoroquinolone antibiotic class, a range of mental health side effects are already described in the Warnings and Precautions section of the drug labeling, but differed by individual drug. The new class-wide labeling changes will require that the mental health side effects be listed separately from other central nervous system side effects and be consistent across the labeling of the fluoroquinolone class. The mental health side effects to be included in the labeling across all the fluoroquinolones are disturbances in attention, disorientation, agitation, nervousness, memory impairment and delirium.

.

All this to say, No one should take Trump's dereliction of duty, his failure to act, failure to warn the American people of the danger they were in lightly. When he was fully aware of how dangerous this virus is. In any other profession, this would be negligence, malpractice and a credible case for manslaughter. In mental health, there is a duty to warn- If I know that someone is in danger, a patient has made threats and has plans to harm someone, I have a duty to warn that person. If I don't, I could be held liable, if that person was indeed harmed.

Getting this illness, is a roll of the dice, you don't know what you are going to get. For him to get out there and say, this is harmless to young people is so dangerous. Steroids, can affect anyone, the way they have affected my son. It doesn't just affect people who already have mental health issues. The term "roid rage" - in terms of people who abuse steroids, exists for a reason. If you are treated with steroids medically, you can get "roid rage" - that's putting it really simply. Anyone , whether or not they had a previous psych diagnosis, can get depressed, manic, or psychotic after treatment with steroids.

Steroids have been helpful in some cases to keep people from going down hill. So there are no regrets that my son was treated with steroids or Levaquin. The first time he was hospitalized, they attempted to treat with a safer anti biotic. Obviously, it did not work. He was re-admitted. These treatments perhaps, saved his life so I have no regrets. We are between a rock and a hard place here, with no proven cures.

Its the recklessness of this so called president and this administration that keeps lying about the seriousness of this illness that makes me angry. Almost 200, 000 dead. The survivors aren't all having an easy time of getting back to "normal". Many are still struggling with the after effects, just like my son.

Then there is the financial cost of it all, he still has follow up appts, with pulmonologists, labs, X-rays and who knows what else will come.
The psych medications that he was previously stable on, no longer work- he has been switched to a newer med - for which there is no generic. Insurance covers most of it, but not all.

His hospital bills for all 3 times we went to the hospital, follow ups, medications, almost 100K thus far. Thankfully insurance covers most of, but not all. Thank you President Obama. Last year when he lost his job, I made him sign up for a plan on the exchange.
I'm sure at the time, he did not think it was necessary. He thought he would only need it to pay for his existing psych meds.
I can't imagine how it would have turned out, if he did not have insurance.

As this is a novel virus, we don't know the long term effects, that people may have. Its mind boggling to me, that so many people are so cavalier with the health and lives of the people of this country, all to worship at the feet of trump.

Oh, almost forgot that my son now has increased blood sugar. Most likely, related to the steroids. Its not terribly high, but something we also have to work on lowering.

To have a president be so cavalier when talking about how this is harmless for young people, should be criminal

Andrew Gillum's first interview since the hotel incident

First let me say: I work in mental health and with people struggling with addiction and I have seen it all. I am not going to chastise Mr. Gillum for his struggles. What I do question, the timing of the interview. I think he opens himself up to so much backlash and criticism from the right and left so soon after this happened. I hope he and his wife are in a good place to withstand all the incoming.

Tamron Hall Talks 'Heartbreaking' Interview with Former Fla. Political Star Found Drunk in Hotel Scandal
"The level of shame that he is feeling, the level of heartbreak and humiliation that his wife has been exposed to, reaches a depth of pain that I cannot imagine," Hall tells PEOPLE

After news of the incident spread, Gillum announced he would be stepping back in order to “seek help, guidance and enter a rehabilitation facility.”

Now, for the first time, the former mayor of Tallahassee and his wife are talking about the situation and his recovery.

“It’s one of the most difficult interviews I’ve ever conducted because you have someone who — the level of shame that he is feeling, the level of heartbreak and humiliation that his wife has been exposed to, reaches a depth of pain that I cannot imagine," Hall says.

“The truth is, is that, Tamron, everyone believes the absolute worst about that day," Gillum tells Hall. "At this stage I don't have anything else to have to conceal. I literally got broken down to my most bare place, to the place where I wasn't even sure that I wanted to live. Not because of what I had done, but because of everything that was being said about me.”

Gillum says that he has cried "every day" since the incident.
