Prince’s Paisley Park: Al Roker gets first look inside ‘untouched’ museum

"At Prince’s Paisley Park In Chanhassen, Minnesota, handwritten notes and recording equipment remain just where they were before the iconic musician’s death. The estate’s archivist says Prince saved much of his memorabilia, including some of his 6,000 custom-made pieces of clothing. Two of Prince’s sisters, Sharon and Norrine Nelson, tell TODAY’s Al Roker that they can feel 'the spirit of Prince' inside."

10 Emotional Abuse Tactics That Trump Blatantly Used in the First Debate

Good article, worth a read.

------------

Everyday Feminism
Elana Sztokman
http://everydayfeminism.com/2016/09/trump-emotional-abuse-tactics/

Therapists around the country are reporting spikes in patients dealing with election anxiety.

Clinical psychologist Stephen Holland told The Atlantic, “Among people who are not Trump supporters, we’re hearing a higher level of concern and dismay than I’ve probably heard in any election cycle, in 25 years of clinical work.”.... Although this may ring true in all elections, this time one of the primary causes is Donald Trump.

<snip>

Trump uses toxic tactics of emotional abuse – especially emotional abuse aimed at women – in order to put other people down. The tactics are powerful, emotionally violent, and often disarming against their victims....

If you’re not accustomed to identifying and recognizing these tactics as abusive, they can leave you with unexplained emotional tremors. And if you are used to them – that is, if you’re a survivor of emotional abuse – watching this happen in public can be triggering and frightening.

<snip>

With the goal in mind of shedding light on emotionally abusive strategies, here are ten of the toxic tactics that Trump has been using during this campaign, including some examples from the recent debate.

1. Lying... "We’re used to politicians who stretch the truth, who waffle or dissemble, who emphasize some facts while omitting others. But I can’t think of any other political figure who so brazenly tells lie after lie, spraying audiences with such a fusillade of untruths that it is almost impossible to keep track.”...

2. Denial...

3. Blame Shifting... At one point, Clinton even quipped, “I’m pretty sure that by the end of the night, I will have been blamed for everything that ever happened.” Yes, that was exactly Trump’s intention. Indeed, he responded, “Why not?"...

4. Moving the Goal Posts... in the discussion on creating jobs, Trump turned what should have been a discussion of his plan to an attack on Clinton’s “thirty years of experience” in politics...

5. Bait and Switch... “I will release my tax returns when Hillary releases her deleted e-mails” – to which the audience, astoundingly, cheered...

6. Projecting... Despite his appalling record on his treatment of women, whenever he’s confronted about it, he switches the conversation to talk about how “not nice” women are to him...

7. Generalizing and Exaggerating... Clinton has over ten times as many policy pages on her website than Trump, and her speeches are filled with details about her proposals and plans. Trump, by contrast, prefers grandiose generalization and hyperbole...

8. Yelling and Shouting Over... He interrupted her no less than fifty times. He repeatedly refused to stop talking when the moderator told him there was no more time, he interrupted Clinton even when she was given only a small amount of time to answer, and he refused to ever let Clinton have the last word...

9. Fear-Mongering...

10. Body Shaming...

Russian President Vladimir Putin Reportedly Planning Reforms to Effectively Resurrect KGB

Source: ABC News

President Vladimir Putin is planning a major restructuring of the country’s security services that would effectively mean a rebirth of the KGB, according to a report in the Russian media.

Respected business paper Kommersant quoted anonymous officials as saying that a new body called the “Ministry for State Security” would be established before Russia’s 2018 presidential elections that, in its powers and roles, appears to closely resemble the Soviet-era KGB.

The new body would be known by the acronym “MGB.”

The reforms would restore most of the KGB’s functions to its successor service, the FSB, while also returning the foreign intelligence gathering to the same body, according to the newspaper.

The result would be a single powerful security structure, sitting at the heart of the state's enforcement machinery, much as the KGB once did in the Soviet Union.

Naked Trump statues are back, now gazing at motorists near the Holland Tunnel

Washington Post
Peter Holley September 14

The road leading to the Holland Tunnel is already an automotive eyesore, even by Jersey City standards. But there's one thing certain to make the execrable stretch of rundown warehouses and gas stations even more unsightly: Donald Trump's naked flesh.

That's exactly what thousands upon thousands of helpless motorists were treated to after members of the anarchist collective INDECLINE unveiled their latest, life-size statue of Trump on a warehouse roof several hundred yards from the tunnel entrance early Wednesday morning.

<snip>

This time around, an IDECLINE spokesman said, the statue appeared to generate another strong reaction among motorists as they crept toward the tollway outside Manhattan. (More than 316,000 motorists passed through the tunnel on average each day this year through June, according to figures from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.)

"You would see that early-morning despondency among drivers," the spokesman, who discussed the project with The Washington Post on the condition of anonymity, said. "Then they'd look at it -- and then look at it again -- and a big smile would break out across their face."

"I saw a mom pointing it out to her kid," the spokesman added. "We got a lot of thumbs up and honking."

Black metal legend elected to Norwegian town council against his will

“My campaign was a picture of me holding my cat saying, ‘Please don’t vote for me.’”

Norwegian extreme music legend Fenriz is getting ready to release Arctic Thunder, the new album from his foundational black metal band Darkthrone, but he’s hit an unexpected speed bump. After agreeing to join a “backup list” of potential candidates for the local neighborhood council in Kolbotn, Oslo, he was unexpectedly elected.

<snip>

Never underestimate the power of a cute cat, though. Fenriz jokingly shared a photo of himself holding his cat (whose name roughly translates to Peanut Butter) specifically asking people to not vote for him. Now he will be required to serve as Councilman Gylve Fenris Nagell for four years before stepping down is an option.

“Basically, I have to step in when the usual people who go to the big meetings are sick or something. Then I have to go sit there and feel stupid among the straight people,” he told CLRVYNT, later adding “I’m a pillar of my community.”

US high court refuses to reinstate North Carolina voter ID

Source: The News & Observer

By GARY ROBERTSON Associated Press
RALEIGH, N.C.

A divided U.S. Supreme Court refused Wednesday to reinstate North Carolina’s voter identification requirement and keep just 10 days of early in-person voting. The court rejected a request by Gov. Pat McCrory and other state officials to delay a lower court ruling that found the state law was tainted by racial discrimination.

The decision – a victory for voting rights groups and President Barack Obama’s Justice Department – means voters won’t have to show one of several qualifying photo IDs when casting ballots in the presidential battleground state. Early voting also reverts to 17 days, to begin Oct. 20.

The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals struck down several parts of the law last month, saying they were approved by Republican legislators with intentional bias against black voters in mind. Lawyers for McCrory and the state officials – some hired by GOP legislative leaders who championed the 2013 law – disagreed with the 4th Circuit ruling and wanted a delay while they draft an appeal on legal arguments they want the Supreme Court to consider.

The high court divided 4-4 on most of the challenged provisions, with the four more conservative justices supporting the state’s bid to enforce them in the upcoming election. The split illustrates again how closely divided the Supreme Court is on voting rights and how the outcome of the presidential election essentially will determine the direction of the court.

The Inaugural Poem under a Trump Presidency

Ploughshares at Emerson College
Dean Rader

If Mr. Trump were to win the November election, all sorts of interesting questions arise: Would he ask someone to write and read an inaugural poem? Would the writer have to get the poem cleared by Trump and Trump staffers? Would Chachi be there? Most interesting of all, though, is this: would the poet accept the invitation.

<snip>

Jennifer L. Knox dives into the deep irony of the request. She contrasts the Republican nominee’s reliance on cliché, triumphalism, and disregard with poetry’s resistance toward those values—and she does it by way of poetry itself. Here is her poem:

This is a Terrific Poem About Me Being Elected President of the United States. It’s Called, “Color Me Tomorrow, Today.” (shrugs) That’s Weird, But It’s Really a Terrific Poem, Folks. The Best.

“Gird your loins, small handed men!”
I like that (crowd hoots). “Strike up a wench-
pithy polka to which…” (eyes dart left,
makes stink face) “…teeeyou wheech…”
(makes fey gesture with his tiny hand,
crowd goes bananas) It’s a poem, folks!
(crowd haws) OK, back to the poem:
“For every goodly human in this football
stadium here today, I sayeth unto thee…”
(eye roll) It’s like the frickin’ Bible (yee-haws)
“I am scared of new words and mirrors” ?
“I am a trapped raccoon man” ?
What is this shit? (hands poem to giant
glowing hairless toxic waste baby in front row,
baby eats the poem, glows brighter) Lookit that!
(points, crowd applauds, caws, makes lawn mower/
machine gun sounds). Now that’s the power
of poetry, folks! (President ascends on wires).

New Hillary ad ("Hat, outsourced"). Unlisted video.

Good one! Not sure if this has been posted already.

Side note: the video's status is Unlisted. Not sure why the HRC campaign would do that. Wonder if that's why the view count is low.

Unlisted means your video will not come up in search results or on your channel. Only those who know the link can view it.
