Secrecy, Self-Dealing, and Greed at the N.R.A.

Interesting and well written article. It didn't tell a lot of 2A activists what they didn't know, and have been the subject of some pro gun YouTubers. rI would also add the partisan alliance with the GOP, which pushes away left of center allies (or not really partisan) groups like Liberal Gun Club and Pink Pistols.

Poacher's date turns out to be a bust

Game warden Cannon Harrison probably wasn't expecting to make his latest bust on a dating app. But that's what happened after he matched with an Oklahoma woman on Bumble.

As they struck up an online conversation, the woman immediately shared that she had just killed a "bigo" buck — "obviously not knowing Cannon is a game warden," wrote the Oklahoma Game Wardens in a Facebook post.

Religion and political party of gun owner?

It's opposed by both major parties I don't see it passing.

The cabinet wants to register the race or ethnicity, religious and political preferences of everyone who wants a licence to own a gun, or to extend a licence, the Volkskrant said on Thursday. However, the draft legislation to implement this has run into criticism from both privacy groups and a large part of parliament, the paper said. The paper says the requirements are included in amendments to the current law on guns and ammunition and follows the introduction of new European legislation. The privacy-sensitive information would be held for up to 30 years. In order to register gun ownership, ‘the police will be able to process personal information including race or ethnicity, political beliefs, religious or other life-style convictions as well as health and criminal records,’ the draft legislation states.

illegal gun factory busted in Sussex England

Officers raided the building on Saturday night and found what they believe to be a "sophisticated" operation producing guns, of which the NCA has subsequently seized around 30.

Three men found leaving the building were arrested and police had to use a Taser on one of them, an NCA spokesman said.

On the weekend, two guns were found as well as ammunition, but further searches uncovered the true magnitude of the factory.

Rob Hickinbottom, head of the national firearms threat centre at the NCA, said on Wednesday afternoon: "We believe we have disrupted a group involved in the criminal production of firearms, and as a result we have prevented a potentially large quantity of weapons from getting into the hands of criminals and being used in violence on our streets."

How I would pay for infrastructure repairs,

which is needed. The estimated trillion dollars was just roads and bridges in 1987. I would go beyond that and include public buildings like crumbling schools in places like Baltimore (where many don't have heat) and water works (see Flint, MI)
How would I pay for it? The tax increases should be moderate and spread throughout the economy. I would propose:
a penny per share/per stock transaction.
a ten percent tax (at the point of manufacture) on cosmetics, video games, and sports gear.
Of course, the problem is how to keep various congress members from funding various "pork projects" and bullshit with the funds. That I haven't worked that out yet.

Texas Tech police: campus carry a good thing

LUBBOCK, Texas - Campus carry has been law in Texas for two years now, and Texas Tech police say the law makes the university a safer place.

They say the policy even deters potential active shooters from attempting a mass shooting situation.

“I believe it makes the campus a safer place, to live, learn and educate,” said Amy Ivey, a lieutenant at the Texas Tech Police Department.

Tech police say in a potential active shooter situation, someone might be able to stop it if they are armed.
