The University of Alberta has fired Samantha Pearson, the director of the Sexual Assault Centre after she signed an open letter penned by ousted Ontario MPP Sarah Jama that calls into question whether Israeli women were subjected to rape and sexual violence during a Hamas attack on Oct. 7.

Jama, an Independent MPP from Hamilton, Ont., was the letter’s first signatory. She was booted from the NDP caucus last month after making controversial comments in support of Palestinians.

Pearson signed the letter on behalf of the University of Alberta Sexual Assault Centre.

Ventura County prosecutors on Friday announced new details surrounding the charges filed against a man who was recently arrested in connection with the death of a 69-year-old pro-Israel protester.

Alnaji, a professor at Moorpark College, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and battery causing serious bodily injury, which are both felonies. Additionally, both charges carry special allegations that Alnaji personally inflicted great bodily injury, prosecutors said.

"The significance of the special allegations is that they elevate these offenses to strikes under California's 'Three Strikes' law," Nasarenko said. "Which makes punishment prison eligible."

Moorpark professor arrested in death of Jewish protester Paul Kessler in Thousand Oaks

A Moorpark College professor has been arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a Jewish protester who suffered head injuries during clashes between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel demonstrators earlier this month in Thousand Oaks.

Loay Abdelfattah Alnaji, 50, of Moorpark was arrested early Thursday in the death of Paul Kessler, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department announced in a news release. Alnaji is being held in lieu of $1-million bail.

Columbia University suspends anti-Israel groups SJP, JVP for violating school policies

Columbia University is suspending two anti-Israel groups — Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) — as official student groups through the end of the fall semester, the school’s senior executive vice president Gerald Rosberg announces in a statement.

“This decision was made after the two groups repeatedly violated university policies related to holding campus events, culminating in an unauthorized event Thursday afternoon that proceeded despite warnings and included threatening rhetoric and intimidation,” Rosberg says.

Indy police arrest 'terrorist' for purposely driving her car into home used by hate group

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD officers arrested a woman, who police labeled a “terrorist,” after she drove her car into a building in what she described as a planned attack on the Israelite School of Universal and Practical Knowledge.

Ruba Almaghtheh, 34, was arrested on a preliminary charge of intimidation which is a level 5 felony if the threat is to commit terrorism.

Almaghtheh told officers she was watching news coverage of the Israel-Hamas war on television and decided to plan an attack on the building because she was offended by the “Hebrew Israelite” symbol on the front of the building.
