60 degrees today. But yesterday was the first day above freezing in 16 days. It has been one of the coldest Decembers on record.

10. "hope you missed the pile up...
So damned cold tonight and I promised to go to friends' house this evening.

I'm very very glad I bought my new heavy- snow rated Nokian WRG2 all weather tires... In case you are curious why I'm so enthused about a tire, this is the only DOT-rated heavy snow, all weather radial tire in the US currently. I really searched to find and get them on before major snow. Yeah! No swapping out of tires!

Of course not much other than chains would likely have prevented that pile-up... I'm thinking I may go ahead and order a new set, just in case.

Drive carefully folks--those on dry pavement as well. Watch the alcohol! Happy New Year!

Edited on Fri Dec-31-10 07:39 PM by Bluzmann57
Until tonight. Sounds like it's going to get real cold real fast. Around a 45-50 degree drop between now (about 6:37 PM CST) and tomorrow morning. But the large majority of the snow is gone at least.
On edit- Eastern Iowa is where I'm at. Just for reference.

16. In the 40s here in Wisconsin along the lake shore in
Manitowoc county. Gave us time to get the ice off the sidewalks and it's melted in the roads now. Cleared the last storm off the roofs, too. It was pretty heavy snow up on the roofs. Saved us a ton of work I'll tell you.

17. It started out warm and rainy this morning, but the temperature dropped
when the front moved through and now it's cold and windy. This morning at 6:00 a.m. it was 69 degrees. The low tonight will be around freezing.

There was severe weather this morning. A tornado touched down in a little rural town about 50 miles north of here. Three people were killed and 8 more injured. Not the kind of weather you expect in December.

Edited on Sat Jan-01-11 12:23 AM by Art_from_Ark
That tornado in Washington and Benton counties was really strange for this time of year to be sure. Nearly all Arkansas tornadoes occur in March or April, including one that occurred in your neck of the woods a few years ago.
