2 U.S. Soldiers Killed In Southern Iraq

BAGHDAD — The U.S. military says two American soldiers have been killed while conducting operations in southern Iraq.

In a statement, released on Saturday, the military says the deaths occurred Friday.

No further details about how they died were released.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin and release by the Department of Defense.

Even during peacetime a couple hundred soldiers die. Accidents, weird physiological incidents, suicide and murders. There's a non-zero death rate for the average 20-year-old soldier. Put 100k of them in Iraq and you'll have a few per year.

(This is why I ignore the numbers of how many were killed in Iraq. I always adjust them by the number of them you'd expect to die if they were all stationed in the US.)
