Jerry Brown Planning Thrifty Inauguration Party
Brown Planning Thrifty Inauguration Party
December 28, 2010 10:50 PM

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Jerry Brown will take over the reins as California’s governor next week, and details are beginning to emerge on his low-key inauguration celebration.

Governor-elect Brown has reportedly approved the party plans for the Railroad Museum, which is expected to offer catering by Whole Foods for 1,800 invited guests and cost no more than $64,000.

For comparison: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 2007 inauguration celebration cost $600,000 and entertained 8,000 guests.

3. Jerry would do that if he could get away with it.
He's notoriously tight fisted.

1. I noticed that with Pennsylvania
The republican governors would have these massive shindigs that would cost alot of money, expensive tickets to attend and cost well over $500K to put together. Then I went to the Ed Rendell inauguration back in 2003. What a nice gathering. It was $50 to attend, which was very affordable and it was held at the Farm Show building, which isn't a fancy venue for an event (in fact it was right after Farm Show week and I could still smell animals in there). And alot of the catering came from various Pennsylvania business. I remember he had Yeungling, Rolling Rock and Iron City for the beers along with a selection of Pennsylvanian Wines. It was a really nice affair

2. Knowing Jerry, I'm surprised he didn't hold it
at Jack In the Box. Did the taxpayers pay for Arnold? If they did, I hope Jerry gets our money back from him.

5. Good for him!
I'm glad he's being smart enough and frugal enough to not blow millions on an inaugural bash. What a waste of money those are!

I think $35/plate is still a little extravagant, but that's less than half of Arnold's, according to the article, so that's good news. $35/plate would be a modest wedding reception (relatively, given the absurd sums of money some people spend on weddings these days, as if you're somehow "more married" if you have a $20,000 wedding).
