Is it time to have "Who has the Worst Governor" Contests?? Allow me to nominate Jan Brewer:

PHOENIX (Reuters) - Arizona Governor Jan Brewer on Tuesday signed into law a controversial bill that makes the state the first in the nation to outlaw abortions performed on the basis of the race or gender of the fetus.

The move comes as anti-abortion groups across the nation try to seize on gains made by political conservatives during the November elections, seeking enactment of new state laws to further restrict abortions.

Under the new Arizona statute, doctors and other medical professionals would face felony charges if they could be shown to have performed abortions for the purposes of helping parents select their offspring on the basis of gender or race.

Backers of the measure said the ban is needed to put an end to sex- and race-related discrimination that exists in Arizona and throughout the nation. They insist the issue is about bias rather than any broader stance on abortion.

39. Yep. pRick Perry's Numero Uno.
Especially in view of what he's done to the most vulnerable of Texans--children. Bills cutting healthcare, free clinics, education, nutrition programs, etc.

18. Yeah, I have a friend from Ohio who's
always pissed about something Kasich has done. Another friend in Louisiana bitches about Jindal all the time. I remember a time when people rarely mentioned the governor -- hell, a lot of people didn't even know his name. Americans started electing all these assholes to the office and now everybody knows who they are. How I miss the good old days of apathy.

10. That's not fair; I nominate Rick Scott
She's had a whole half term already to be a piece of shit.

Rick Scott is on the fast track to break as many laws as he can, signing an executive order that, in direct violation of the 4th amendment, forces quarterly drug tests on public employees AND forces them to use a company owned, previously by Rick Scott himself, by Rick Scott's wife.

16. It really is like upside down world here lately.
Usually, I have the worst of the worst, but this time around, I cannot nominate the governor of my state for this position. I actually like her. I lucked up for 4 years.

Usually, on DU, it's the other way around. Everyone else has good politicians and I have Republican shit politicians. This time around, NC went blue. My only complaints are that NC went back red during the midterms and we got stuck with a majority Republican N.C. Congress. That sucks. I now have a good governor who has to veto the garbage they are sending her.

26. Ours steals paintings from the department of labor in the middle of the night,
calls protesters 'stupid idiots', jokes about killing whales at economic fishing meetings, claims to have an adopted african son that is not actually his son nor adopted, apparently only puts forward bills directly written by large lobbyist legal firms, wants to put the BPA back into childrens' bottles, wants to repeal the bottle deposit (which has near universal approval here), and is in charge of a company that I believe has the highest (or near highest) amount and percentage of employees on welfare while railing about how many people are on welfare.

He's a grade-A fucking bilbo-douchebaggins.

29. Nominating Robert McDonnell
He's just as extreme as the others behind the scenes (with the help of our notorious attorney general), but crafty enough to put on a moderate, "everybody get along" face for the public...That's what's really scary because it will fast-track him to the senate

36. Thank goddess we have a good governor here! What a relief!
Gov. Malloy is a hard worker and isn't afraid of taking chances. He's taking some heat for raising some taxes and eliminating some tax breaks and "holidays" but all in all he's been pretty good. Let's face it, being a governor in these bad times is not going to be a very pleasant experience. But I think Dan Malloy really relishes his job and he's very good at doing it.

41. Nominating Dr. Robert Bentley
Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley this afternoon apologized to anyone he may have offended with his inaugural day comments that non-Christians were not his brothers and sisters.
<...>

Bentley today said he was speaking in the language of his faith (he's an evangelical Christian) to other Baptists.

He will never deny his beliefs but he regretted if he offended anyone, Bentley told reporters. "I do have core beliefs, I will die with those core beliefs," he said.

42. Brewer's maybe number three or four...
In the "Whose Governor is the Worst Douchebag?" contest, there's no doubt Rick Scott is way, WAY beyond any of the others--this simply because he just got elected and he's already this bad. Whereas Bob McDonnell, Chris Christie, Goodhair Perry and Jan Brewer started out bad and had to work their way up to pure evil, Rick Scott started out that way.

So... jmowreader's list of the Eight Worst Douchebag Governors, in order:

Rick Scott (Florida)
Bob McDonnell (Virginia)
Chris Christie (New Jersey)
Jan Brewer (Arizona)
Scott Walker (Wisconsin)
Paul LePage (Maine)
Rick Perry (Texas)
Butch Otter (Idaho)

The thing I have to know about this new Arizona bill: how is it going to be enforced? It's slightly possible you could figure out the abortion was sex-selection--if someone came in for amnio this week, got the results and came in for an abortion next week, one could POSSIBLY say it was a sex-selection. Then again, the woman could just say "I realized I couldn't go through with the pregnancy" and--well, surprise RWers, that's still legal. Race is a different story: since neither amnio nor ultrasound can determine the race of a child, the only way you'd know you could possibly be carrying a baby of a different race than yours is to know you got pregnant by a man of a different race than you...and there's still a legal out here: "I realized I didn't love the father and couldn't carry his baby to term."

I have to know: when are the Republicans going to propose padlocking unmarried women's vaginas as a means of preventing unwed motherhood?
