POLL My DU post on Murdoch is on another website. Do other DUers worry about getting harassed?

I just googled Rupert Murdoch and saw a headline that looked like a post from DU I made last week. I pulled it up

and there is my post. I'm new to DU and never really thought that other people/websites might take what I write and put it on a News (?) site/other website. WOW.

That changes how I approach DU...with a realization that I have to be really on top of my facts and to make sure I am really backing up what I say.

But it kinda brings this nagging worry I've had in the back of my mind. (a little teeny tiny thought....) I/We are writing about the Koch Brothers and Rupert Murdoch. Businessmen who obviously have killer instincts and low morals when it comes to how to deal with us liberal scum. We are openly and brazenly talking about people who are trying to squash us.

Do you ever worry, even a little bit, that one of these security companies or shadowy Koch funded groups might try to mess with you? I mean, if hb gary is offering to plant bugs, look into activists who talk about the Chamber of Commerce...well...why would they stop there.

Have you ever considered your posts on DU could get you harassed?

There were times during the BushCo Regime that I nearly stopped posting OR reading from the InterTubes! I've had several of my posts from here posted elsewhere, and they weren't all verbatim either!

I encourage everyone to Google their own screen names from time to time... Hell, I have a Google alert set up for mine!

5. I do that from time to time. Copies of my DU posts show up

in all sorts of places. I get the occasional ugly email, since I don't really hide my identity, but that's about it. I don't worry about it. If someone actually threatened me, I have extremely good internet research capabilities, and someone would pay them a visit on an official basis.

I say what I think, and let the chips fall where they may.

4. My harrassment was on a local level... FreeRepublic members

harrassed me a LOT in the local paper.
When I still lived with my ex-man, his biker friends would "have fun" with me.(we are,after all, in Red Hell)
there have been many lttes in my paper disregarding and insulting me based on facts they don't want to hear.
It hasn't hurt my kids,yet-it has hurt my job somewhat.

I'm a teacher so kinda keeping my head low...but...recent politics has pretty much got me to come out of the closet--politics wise.

I'm enjoying getting to do some essay writing though, totally worth it!

i refuse to on my republican rag because the folks that post there are not worth it. they have the same answer for anything they disagree with.

8. I sometimes worry, especially because I have been posting more and more stuff on facebook

so my real name , with a pic, accompanies the posts. I get scared about that sometimes, but I refuse to live in fear of the reich-wing, even if I'm putting myself at risk. A cowed, fearful populace is exactly how dictators achieve and maintain power.

I've shared a few good articles by posting links to the article but haven't linked to facebook on something i've written on here. Pity too because i made a GREAT boycott sign for wisconsin on facebook that I want to share!

15. I guess I got emboldened by seeing how social networking facilitated communication

in the middle east etc that led to people organizing resistance to their dictatorships. I just post informational stuff for the most part and just hope that maybe, somewhere, some at least remotely open-minded conservative or middle of the roader will read some bit of information that helps them have a "lightbulb moment". It is happening a little I think; that there is some awakening as to what the republican party is really doing to this country. So hopefully, my posts are not perceived as attacks. (Hopefully)

16. Some of my posts have gotten me harassed

but mostly at other sites. DU harassment is easy, just use ignore, which I do. As for harassment in daily life, that hasn't happened yet. Mostly what I see is stuff I've come up with in print media by columnists who obviously mine sites like this one for material.

Fortunately, we're still allowed to hide behind screen names and mine vary for every site I post on.
