Bank of America announced it would donate and refurbish 10 vacant homes in Detroit
Just read this in this article:

UAW protest forces bank branch to close temporarily
http://www.freep.com/article/20110324/NEWS01/110324026/UAW-forces-Bank-America-close-temporarily-over-taking-government-money?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE

It ain't much but this is a start.

This is EXACTLY what needs to happen to the millions of empty homes for the millions of homeless people.

And B of A should be made to pay for it, them and the other criminal bankers that have been stealing homes.

We need to start doing this in every town!

2. It's horseshit.
It's a PR move to distract from years of shit they've been pulling on consumers ... Wasn't BofA a target of Wikileaks???

6. Fine, a better PR move would be refurbishing and donating millions of homes.
let's get on them.

4. The only way I'd forgive those bastards is if
they were to shut down and distribute their money to all the people they stole it from. Anything less than that is a PR stunt and nothing more. To hell will Bank of America.

8. they are on the right track
now we need to demand ALL the banks do this with the millions homes they stole...and either give them to low income families, or give them to the government to set up low income housing.

25. That's insanity
Edited on Fri Mar-25-11 08:55 PM by Oasis_
The banks lent the money to the borrower to purchase the home. The borrower defaulted, resulting in the bank claiming the collateral (home).

The bank is just supposed to forfeit their assets?

Every single lending institution in this country that engaged in mortgage lending would all but go under if this were the case.

I'm sorry but this is pure pie-in-the sky malarkey.

The banks have every right to (lawfully) foreclose on their property, adhering to established laws, statutes and guidelines.

18. I'm oh so terribly sorry -- not.
I saw a subject line that said "Whole neighborhood in taters" and I thought its absurdity distracted GREATLY from the message. When the message gets lost, then spelling MATTERS.

I do not, and I will not, jump on every spelling or usage or puntuation or GRAMMAR error I see, but when the goof substantially affects what the poster is trying to say, then I think I -- and every other DUer who gives a rat's ass about the message -- has an obligation to point that out.

21. It's A Message Board, Not A Thesis Paper
The message came across to me just fine, and even if the message was filled with so many grammar and spelling mistakes that the message is unclear, I would politely ask for clarification, or just ignore it.

You, comma, on the other hand, comma, took it too far, being unnecessarily scornful.

I too usually don't jump on every instance of assholery on the internets (intentional misspelling BTW), but for some reason you're the one exception for the day.

19. J. Danforth Quayle was ridiculed when he added an "e" to "potato"
But apparently misspelling is okay when it's our side that does it.

Nice double standard that.

12. You know who else made a huge amount of money on overpriced homes?
The municipalities who used property taxes to fund all kinds of stuff that they now can't afford.

So we increased spending based on crazy overvaluations, then when it comes down we are in a lot of pain cutting back.

14. Hopefully they donated them to Habitat for Humanity so they can
be sold this time with no interest. Then people may actually be able to afford them. They should also refurbish some of these homes for shelters for the homeless who will not be able to have them any other way.

They're not doing it for the homeless, they are doing it to try and polish up their image because people hate them so much right now.
