Well, the school I used to teach in DC is under investigation for a missing $100,000...
From "MyFoxDC" and reporter Maureen Umeh:

http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/news/special_report/where-did-100000-prize-awarded-to-dcs-mckinley-technology-high-school-go-031711

Where Did $100,000 Prize Awarded To DC's McKinley Technology High School Go?

A $100,000 prize awarded to a D.C.'s McKinley Technology High School is apparently gone. Now the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia is investigating and a former teacher is blowing the whistle on where he believes the money ended up.

...

The money was supposed to be used for a program called Senior 2 Senior, where students in the 12th grade would help senior citizens learn how to use the internet. McKinley Tech was awarded the money, but no program was ever launched.

...

He said only four people would have had access to money: the school's principal, David Pinder; the assistant school superintendent; the Deputy Schools Chancellor at the time, Kaya Henderson; and former Schools Chancellor, Michelle Rhee.

...

DCPS security began an investigation and according to lead investigator, Eastern Steward, $35,000 of the award money was spent on a technology bus that was used just five times; $10,000 for new office furniture; thousands for dinners and conferences, and thousands more that can't be accounted for.
-------------------------------------------------

One of the teachers I used to work with was arrested for 2nd degree burglary. Good times.

3. Supposedly, attention has turned to the principal
I was done teaching there before he started, so I don't really know anything about him.

6. Not a friend (My friend was actually the whistleblower)...the guy arrested was behind the bus
Former technology teacher who ran a program called "Be the Game". I guess some money he handled as part of it went missing.

10. My understanding is he's paying back some form of restitution
It also looks like an investigation has begun in ernest on the current principal.

A lot has changed since I last taught there, I guess.

7. Shame on the AARP for not being good stewards
of their money as well.

This is not tax dollars but from the AARP according to the article.

8. Yeah, it was an award. AARP said because it is an award and not a grant...
they're not interested in investigating.

Just hope they can track down the missing money.
