ACLU advocates for a "Do not track" list meanwhile they are using tracking sites on their own site.

This article posted by an ACLU blogger "Spying On Surfing: Why We Need a "Do Not Track" List" http://www.aclu.org/blog/technology-and-liberty/spying-surfing-why-we-need-do-not-track-list , makes the case for a national opt out for online tracking sites that track your movements across the web.

The article describes how "private companies are tracking all our movements online, selling that information to other companies who in turn share it with law enforcement and the government," and that "as this practice spreads, the chilling effect on our First and Fourth Amendment rights will be immense."

Meh. OK. But what gets me is that the very site I'm reading this on, is using two notorious tracking sites, omniture and netInsight which are doing the very things that the article talks about.

What the article makes no mention of is that you can opt out of those tracking sites with a simple browser plugin. A national opt-out list seems like a pretty unrealistic goal considering the very organization pressing for that seems to want to participate in the systematic tracking of our movements online.

1. They are lying hypocrites
They defend Nazi marchers in a town of Holocaust survivors, Fred Phelps's cult "church", Rush Limbaugh's "privacy", corporations in the Citizens United case and most recently, teachers union busting in California.

They are also strangely silent when politicians call for gun confiscation.

I want nothing to do with them.

2. Popular causes don't need quite the same level of protection
as the unpopular ones. Even Nazis have rights. Any rule you can write to exclude certain people from their Constitutional rights will inevitably end up biting you on the ass.

I don't like Nazis, I don't like Phelps, and I don't like Rush, but--to slightly reword some old guy, "Even as you do it unto the foulest and most despicable of these, you do it unto me." (Wish I could remember who said that.)

4. There's an entire giant organization (and many lesser ones) dedicated to defending JUST...

...your 2nd Amendment Rights; the ACLU really doesn't
need to do this work too.

And guess what: The "nice" speech doesn't need any
defense; it's always the ugly speech, the speech
that someone (like you) objects to that needs a
vigorous defense.

By the way, how do you feel about the ACLU here?

3. Punctuation is important.
I had to read your lead four times before I figured out what it was saying.

ACLU advocates for a "Do not track" list; meanwhile, they are using tracking sites o their own site.

Bad leads lead to people ignoring your post.
