The Huffington Post is now OFF my daily reading list.
Edited on Thu Mar-17-11 04:07 PM by cleanhippie
There were many things leading up to this, including the sell-out to AOL, without any compensation to the bloggers that made that site successful drove me to the edge.

But the recent addition of ANDREW fucking BREITBART to the list of contributors was my breaking point.
It is my own personal boycott of HuffPo. Never going back. Not now. Not ever. Unless things change over there, it no longer holds any credibility for me.

Anyone agree or disagree?

On edit: If you think you can stand it, here it is. Try not to gag...

21. How can you compare what one wrote voluntarily to those forced into hard labor against their will?
I mean that totally boggles the mind.

From what I know with HuffPost and I was a committed reader there for years, is that it was a forum where people would be allowed to write articles and have them published. No one was forced to write those articles, no one was dragged from their homes in the middle of the night and forced to work inhumane hours writing those articles. They were all voluntary.

However having this Breibart on their staff DOES offend me and I won't read them anymore.

6. Agree...
There's a real opening for a competitor now as a central news compiler... The RW has always had Drudge (as disgusting as that might be) and for a while the Left/Centrists had HuffPO. Current competitors are just a little shy of that particular niche.

Of course DU remains the best place to quickly find out what is happening across the world, but it would still be nice to have a central progressive compilation site for multimedia and all the other bells/whistles.

18. Here is an idea for a news website:
Get a bunch of linguists who read foreign newspapers to set up a worldwide news survey site.l

I read French and German. So does my husband.

But I don't read other languages well enough to translate.

If you think this is a good idea, contact me by DU mail.

28. I think that is a tremendous idea...
But my knowledge of foreign language is limited to minimally passable spoken abilities and I would be a frightening (or funny) source for translation....

Let me let this sink in a bit. I do like the idea a great deal.

Maybe we should all write and see if we can get Huffpo to get rid of him? It does really make them less credible and I'm sure all the liberal friends I know would be horrified.

Any info appreciated!

12. When I read (on DU) notsobritebart had been aded as a
contributor I went over to HP site and deleted my profile. After the merger with AO-Hell I thought I'd see what direction they were going to go before I decided finally to move on. That was all it took. I don't understand why they would hire someone with no journalistic integrity, a proven liar an supporter of a proven thief and liar, to contribute anything to the site.

she sold out. I have not missed it at all.

She started showing her true colors after Obama was elected. I visited her on occasion, usually when someone posted a link, but after the AOL deal it was sayonara (a tip of the hat to our friends in Japan).
