California's budget debate takes a bizarre twist (x-post from CA)
Overheard at yesterady's budget debate in Sacramento:

"There's things we could have done instead of throwing the elderly and children and the most vulnerable under the bus," said Assemblywoman Shannon Grove.... "To give us these cuts that address the most vulnerable is pathetic."

http://www.sacbee.com/2011/03/17/3481849/budget.html

"I wonder at what point we are going to take (this) seriously and stop focusing our cuts on the most disadvantaged in California," said Assemblyman Cameron Smyth... in opposition to $600 million in developmentally disabled cuts.

So far, so good. Now here's the kicker:

Both these assemblymembers are repukes! That's right, the very same repukes who block even the most modest efforts to raise revenue at every turn, and are even holding up Gov. Brown's proposal to eliminate redevelopment agencies (they didn't seem to have a problem with Arnie when he tried to raid their funds, though). :wow:

1. even GOPers are saying "enough,"
especially when 300 senior citizens, angry as hell, camp out in their local office.
And they are all registered to vote.

2. I find it more surprising that they're working on the budget
before June!

3. Snarf!

That's only because Gov. Brown wants to get the tax extensions on the June ballot, and he only has a couple of weeks left to do that (hence, all the foot-dragging by repukes).
