Military to military connections determine US relations.
It finally sort of clicked in my little mind the extent of military cooperation in determining a nation's status in the international business community.

Click when the news line went, the US will be able to withdraw its troops from Iraq when its military is stabilized and with close ties to the US military, like in Egypt. No wonder Israel did not panic and overreact.

The US supplies and trains a country's military until they are sure of the actions and loyalties of its command and structure. Then treaties can be made with whatever form of government exists knowing that the country's military force will stabilize the economic environment no matter what the civilian population does, and the US military will have knowledge and some level of control over that force.

Military bases around the world are the structure and US armaments for gift or sale their tools to create stable markets, for international big businesses. Off the budget cutting blocks, the basis of our economy, and perhaps ruin.
