Oklahoma House vote bans pain-causing abortions
House vote bans pain-causing abortions

The Oklahoma House of Representatives approved legislation to make it illegal to perform an abortion on an unborn child who is capable of feeling pain.

The legislation passed with broad bipartisan support.

“This legislation updates our law to reflect the latest scientific research,” said state Rep. Pam Peterson, R-Tulsa. “A wealth of physiological, behavioral and anatomical evidence shows that the developing unborn child is capable of experiencing tremendous pain by 20 weeks post-fertilization. Under this bill, our law will catch up with the scientific evidence.”

House Bill 1888, by Peterson, creates the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.” The proposed law would require abortion providers to determine fetal age prior to an abortion and make it illegal to perform an abortion on an unborn child who is 20-or-more weeks of age.
The bill exempts situations in which the life of the mother is at risk or when the mother faces “serious risk of substantial and irreversible physical impairment.”

1. In other news, Ok votes on the "Fuck Hungry Children and
Sick People" bill, approving not to help them by unanimous vote. A spokesperson wanted to make clear that "We here in Ok only give a shit about fetuses. Children and sick people cost money, so fuck them." States with Repuke legislatures follow suit.

Apologies to DUers from OK and my dear friends in OK City. Just venting and making a point.

2. OMG they did this in Kansas too
The truth is they kill the fetus first. And a dead baby feels no pain. Duh.

3. What a bunch of cowards
Conservative lawmakers don't have the stones to actually take on Roe vs Wade because they know it's political suicide. So they pass end-run laws instead. Then they tell us about how liberals are taking away their freedoms.

5. Don't we already have laws covering this?
20 weeks is 5 months, unless my math is really fuzzy. That's two weeks beyond the first trimester.

6. OK this makes sense...
because we all know that actual BIRTH is just a big happy picnic for the fetus.

Being squeezed in the uterus during labor that can last from an hour or two (in my case) to nearly 24 hours or more.

Then being pushed down a narrow tube only to emerge rather rudely into a cold cruel world that might be even more cold and cruel if its parents don't want it.

Yay! :sarcasm:

PS...there ought to be a law against stupid.

7. Why can't a local anesthetic be injected into the fetus prior to the abortion? (nt)
